Queen of Rain

The second single from the now hit album, ‘TOURISM‘.

“I think there’s a queen of rain in all of us”
Per Gessle

In the UK, this had an awesome two part CD single set. We were still getting super b-sides too, and here we got gems like ‘Pearls of Passion‘, and live cuts from the Sydney 1991 Live Shows, ‘Paint‘ and ‘It Must Have Been Love‘. In addition, we also got to hear a 15 min Interview with Roxette.

Queen of Rain was written for the ‘Joyride‘ album and had meant to be the closing track. In the end it was kept back in favour of ‘Perfect Day‘. This then became the closer for the Joyride Tour, as Vicki Benckert played the accordion. ‘Queen of Rain‘ eventually found its rightful home as the closing track on ‘TOURISM‘.

Swapping out ‘Queen of Rain for reflective but positive vibes ‘Perfect Day preserved the album’s lighter, colourful commercial tone while saving a poignant ballad to anchor the slightly darker, more diverse TOURISM album. Evidence of the original plan does remain on ‘Joyridehowever, as the outro of ‘Things Will Never Be the Same‘ were originally recorded to transition into ‘Queen of Rain‘ and can still be heard in the final take. Give it another listen.

The beautiful Promo Video was filmed on location at the iconic Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy, France. Directed by Matt Forrest and features scenes in the intertidal area of the Couesnon Estuary surrounding the island. Its a beautiful video, befitting a beautiful song.

TRIVIA: The hype sticker on the UK Promo CD mentioned that this was supposed to be part of the sequel to ‘PRETTY WOMAN‘.
The story goes that this never happened as the script for the movie was poor? Who knows.
