The Big L.

“The bigger the better…” time again for some more high-octane pop perfection!

We did feature this one back on Valentines Day, but it wouldn’t feel right to skip over it during the ‘Joyride‘ era, so here we are again!  Seems like the Rox gang weren’t too keen on this one to begin with, but hey, looks like all is forgiven as it crops up pretty much on every Tour?

“I was suspicious, too much pop”
Marie Fredriksson, 1990
[The Making of Joyride]

“It’s not my favourite song, I like ‘Knockin’ On Every Door’ more,
‘Hotblooded’, ‘Joyride more’.  It’s OK…”

Per Gessle, 2020
[Bag of Trix]

It’s definitely high-octane pop for sure, and we love it!  This one really sticks out from the ‘making of‘ documentary (see video clip below), where we got to hear the demo with the alternative/original lyrics, as well as them trying out different vocal takes.  Thankfully, the lyrics were updated and probably guide lyrics anyway.

The song is fun, colourful and extremely radio friendly. The video even more so, I mean what’s not to like?  Hoping this one gets the remaster treatment this year as it’s a goodie.  Live, the song does come to life, and I think I said this before, but I do think this could be a funky acoustic/unplugged number too, in fact, we do get to hear a brief glimpse of Per on Guitar with Marie performing the song acoustically in the studio.
