Staring At The Ground‘ is my favourite song from ‘Have A Nice Day‘, hence its inclusion here on the #ROX40 Countdown. I don’t know what it is about the song that makes it so special, I think perhaps the simplicity, it’s almost understated somehow?

It would have been a great single, as a double aa alongside ‘Salvation‘.

I was very happy to see a previously unreleased version of the song released this year, the ‘Live Rehearsal’ from Roxette’s promotional Tour of the USA in 2001. Although, it’s believed this version is a rehearsal in Sweden prior to the jaunt in America.

We do know that ‘Staring At The Ground‘ was rehearsed at various Soundcheck’s in America, yet these amazing recordings remain locked away in The Roxette Vault. Despite being rehearsed several times, it was never performed live to an audience.

Salvation‘ on the other otherhand, served as the fourth and final official single from ‘Have A Nice Day‘, released November 1999. Another video directed by Anton Corbijn (a personal favourite), which was shot in both Naples and on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. The video is beautiful and suits the whole aesthetic perfectly.

The single didn’t do too well, which was surprising considering the quality of the song. It’s just beautiful. It was translated into Spanish, becoming ‘Lo Siento‘ which translates back as ‘I’m Sorry‘ and featured on a special edition of the album, as well as later on ‘Bag of Trix‘ in 2020.
