Per’s 60 for 60. #31 Födelsedag (Birthday). After just about half the list we crack open the wonderful album “Mazarin,” named after a pastry they feasted on while recording the album. Per claims. Likely he’s fibbing since in the dark woods of Skåne, where AGM is located, there are no mazarins… Anyway, the song “Födelsedag” is from this album and is special in a way that Per plays the bass on it. Why? According to Per he was “sitting the closest to the bass guitar” so there you go. Written in August, 2002 it certainly wasn’t written on Per’s B-day! “Here I am/Today it’s my birthday” #per60

Per’s 60 for 60. #32 Småstadsprat (Small Town Talk.) Here it is, the Swedish version of “Small Town Talk,” this time with Lasse Winnerbäck as the duet partner. A very low-key, and again sad, song. The man fell in love with a girl, and she left. It’s unclear if they ever were a couple or not. Like we mentioned a few weeks ago, this was also recorded in English with Nick Lowe. Per’s 60 for 60. #33 I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend. A Ramones cover, from 2002! It’s rather common for Per and Gyllene, and even Roxette, to play covers from time to time. It’s not as usual that the songs are recorded and released though. This story is kind of funny: A bunch of Swedish rock bands such as Hellacopters, Wilmer X and Backyard Babies decided to record a tribute album to The Ramones; The Song Ramones the Same. Per heard about this project and wanted in, so he recorded this little ditty and also “Sheena is a Punk Rocker” and “Gimme Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment.” Only “Boyfriend” was included on the actual album. As a side note, “Gimme” includes the exact same guitar solo as “Opportunity Nox” performed by Per. #per60

Still going strong after 39 years! “Flickorna på TV2” was released today 40-1 years ago! ? The single was originally released with “Flickorna på TV2” as the B-side and “Himmel No. 7” as the A-side, but radios started playing the B-side and so a week later the single was re-issued as a double A-side. ? A1 – “Flickorna på TV2”; A2 – “Himmel No. 7”. ? Does it deserve to be celebrated next year? ? #GT40? ✌ What do you think? ? /PP

Per’s 60 for 60. #34 Inte tillsammans, inte isär (Not Together, Not Apart.) Another one of those songs about a struggling couple. This one can’t be together, but they also can’t be apart. When summer is here, they are all in love, but then when fall comes, they can’t be together anymore. What to do, what to do? A great song from “Scener” also released on an EP with Marlon Brando on the sleeve. Marie Fredriksson sings the song too, since it’s a duet. The sound is very Gyllene of this era. When a morning turns August, the times of loneliness begin, because we can’t be together and we can’t be apart. Per changed the lyrics when he performs it live because “(he) didn’t like them”. The demo from 1984 has totally different lyrics. Speaking of that demo, we don’t know who sings on it, but she really can’t sing… And how about that accordion solo in the finished product? #per60

Still like this song. Written for Roxette and Marie to sing (in January 2002) but we never got the chance to record it. It stands out a bit on the “Son Of A Plumber”-album, it’s much more mainstream than anything else (Hey mr DJ excluded…). In the normal stereomix (this unofficial video seems for some reason to be in mono) you’ll find the drums to the left (a little production gimmick we picked up from Nick Lowe’s “Crackin’ Up”). /P.

Per’s 60 for 60. #35 Substitute (For the Real Deal). And we’re back to the magnificient album “Son of a Plumber” and this song, which at one point was to become a single. Sad that it was scrapped. The girl Per sings about in “Substitute” is a horrible person, she likes nothing about him and just seems to waiting for that One. This song was suggested to be the lead single off “SOAP” but Per went with “C’mon” instead. She says so/She doesn’t like your rock’n roll/Cos it makes her feel old but it’s alright/She comes and goes/She doesn’t like your fading clothes/You look cheaper than most but it’s alright! Per’s 60 for 60. #36 If I Knew Then (What I Know Now). What are the odds?? Yesterday we had the Swedish counterpart and today this… Yes it’s the same song, basically with the same lyrics. Still this one gathered a few more points. Like we said yesterday, this was never released and was written more than a year and a half before the Swedish version. The lyrics are just as sad: And I wonder/Who will be sleeping in my bed?/Who will be picking the roses?/Who will share the pillow I dream on/When rain falls all over my blue lakes?/Over my lost brakes?/Over my mistakes? This is the very same passage as yesterday. Sad, right? #per60
