A rather haunting version of the sequencer and guitardriven hit.

The Look

The Look, a song by November Stories on Spotify

Per’s 60 for 60. #53 Something Happened Today. Yet another introspective song. Seems we like them here at TDR! This song is taken from the very very popular Son of a Plumber album/project. The project Per “invented” when he was sick and tired of “Per Gessle” and wanted to renew himself. He did more than well, the whole album radiates with happiness. We don’t mean the lyrics of course. These lyrics are quite sad, but with a touch of hope in them. Tried to be good/Any small town person/Knows it never ends/Since I was young/I’ve been a stranger to myself/I know it never ends. But hey/Something happened today/I wish I could explain/The strange sunshine through the rain/The rush I got/I heard you call my name/Things will never be the same again… There’s at least three other song titles mentioned in these few lines! Rather typical Per, wouldn’t you say? #per60

Per’s 60 for 60. #54. Small Town Talk. A low-key song recorded in Nashville in Swedish and in Sweden in English… A song about lost love. The English lyrics are written by Sharon Vaughn, based upon Per’s Swedish ones. In a way the English lyrics seem a bit more hopeful than Per’s original. This is a duet sung by Per’s hero Nick Lowe. Per has also sung it with Lasse Winnerbäck, Linnea Henriksson and of course Christoffer Lundquist on this latest tour. Inside the shadows/Around every turn/I was scared to look/And afraid to learn/The truth of this small town talk… #per60

“Boxette” is a four DVD collection of five live shows, spanning from 1988 to 2001. It covers concert footage from the two tours following Roxette’s “Look Sharp!” release in 1988 and 1989, as well as material from their two world tours – “Live-Ism” from Sydney 1991 and “Crash! Boom! Live!” from Johannesburg in 1995.

Finally there is also a live concert which was recorded on the final leg of the group’s “Room Service” tour in November 2001, and streamed on the Internet back in the days—but which is now digitally remastered and for the first time available on DVD. The “Boxette” box also features a booklet with unique pictures and interviews with former band members.

Per’s 60 for 60. #55 Rickie Lee. Taken from the 1985 album “Scener” the song is about American multi artist Rickie Lee Jones. The song was written for Marie Fredriksson’s debut album “Het vind,” she recorded it but didn’t use it on the album in 1984. Later it came as a bonus track on the “Kärlekens guld” release. Per’s version is a duet with Monica Törnell and has some nice twangy guitars. Both versions are produced by Lasse Lindbom… The obvious question is of course: which one do you prefer? #per60

Per’s 60 for 60. #56 Ingen kan som du (No One Can Like You) The original keyboard/drum machine demo was released on the CD “Demos 1982-86.” This demo is from 2003, released on the compilation CD “Kung av sand,” later included in the Archives, and obviously acoustic. What few know is that there is a demo by Gyllene Tider with Marie Fredriksson on vocals! Nothing has happened with it since, but who knows what will happen in the future? The lyrics are about a confused man (woman in Marie’s case,) who is thrown between despair and love. The woman he loves behaves irratically. No one can like you/be fire and ice together/No one can like you/capture me now/and discard me in a while… #per60

EUROPE BYE BYE. Yep, this tour ended tonight in style with a most magnificent concert at Scandinavium in Gothenburg. If you were there I’m pretty certain you had a good time. We certainly did!!!!

I have to pinch my arm all the time convincing myself this awesome band actually is playing my songs. My Gosh, they’re so good, I’m not worthy! I’ll cherish this tour forever!!

Thanx also to the adorable crew who’ve been with me working on so many different projects over the years. You’re the best! Couldn’t have made it wthout you!

And…last but not least… thanks to all of you who supported PER GESSLE’S ROXETTE + this tour from Day One + came onboard to give your love + support (+ voices) to make it happen. Big bold promise: new adventures ahead!!!! No rest for the wicked! Keep it up! Lots of love from P.

And the tour is over. Scandinavium, Gothenburg. Thank you Per!

Per’s 60 for 60. #57 Kvar i min bil. (Left in My Car) also recorded in English by the John Lindberg Trio as “Still in My Car” and which successfully turned it into a rockabilly song. From the recordings of “En händig man” but was unfortunately left off the album. One of Per’s better songs around that period. When they needed an ‘80s sounding song for the movie “Let the Right One In” they got this track from Per, and they also made a fake ‘80s sleeve for it. Sadly they missed releasing it for real. A few years later it appeared as a 7” and in the PGA. #per60

OSLO ALRITE! Yea, amazing gig tonight. Thanx a million to all you wonderful people in the audience. So loud, so proud!! Really beautiful! Could be the best gig so far on this European Tour??? Maybe? Crazy tight band, very relaxed and yet really really powerful. Have to love this! Norway, a treat to be here! See y’all next time. Love from P&Co.

Per’s 60 for 60. #58. When I Close My Eyes (No One Can See Me). This little gem was released by Norwegian singer Paris, under the name “I Do Believe.” It was in fact also called “I Do Believe” on the “The Look for Roxette” promo release as well. Another sad song, introspective, wondering. This T&A demo is from the summer of 1999 and is featured in the Per Gessle Archives. Quite possibly this was meant for “Room Service.” Paris’s version was out in 2002, and it’s very similar to Per’s demo. Something woke me up/In the middle of the night/I never ever felt so lonely/I thought about givin’ you a call/But it was half past five… We know the feeling well. Have you heard both, and if so, which version do you prefer?

Cold November rain didn’t stop Per and his band visiting Helsinki. Read our report here!

Per and his tour visit rainy Helsinki

HELSINKI – Per Gessle had brought his band to Helsinki, Finland, in the most miserable November weather you can imagine. The concert was originally planned to a larger arena in the neighbouring city of Espoo, but moved and re-scheduled to Kulttuuritalo (Culture House) in the capital.
