The Daily Roxette presents ROX40
It Will Take A Long Long Time
Another imaginary single, this time with the sublime ‘It Will Take A Long Long Time’ that ‘kinda’ featured in another Julia Roberts and Richard Gere movie…
“An angel smiled across the room. All in all, it was a lazy afternoon…”
‘It Will Take A Long Long Time‘ was featured in another major Hollywood movie, ‘Runaway Bride‘. This was the second movie to feature Roxette alongside both Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, directed by the late and great, Garry Marshall.
Unlike ‘It Must Have Been Love‘ in ‘Pretty Woman‘, which was heavily spotlighted in it’s own standalone montage, this time around ‘IWTALLT‘ was featured as background music coming from a jukebox during a bar scene.
Garry Marshall was a big Roxette fan, and the story goes here that he intentionally sought out another Roxette song to feature as a kind of ‘easter egg’ for fans of ‘Pretty Woman‘ and of course Roxette. He was known to do this kind of nod to previous movies in newer projects.
Interestingly, while the song if officially credited, it remains an ‘in-film’only‘ track, meaning that those wanting to hear the song would have had to have sought out the ‘Have A Nice Day‘ album.
Unbeknown to fans, there was a completely different version of the song hidden away in The Roxette Vault. Aptly named the ‘Modern Rock Version‘, it stripped away the orchestral strings, and was given more of an upbeat, guitar-driven country pop ditty. Fans got to hear this version as a b-side to 2001’s ‘Real Sugar‘ single from the album ‘Room Service‘. The alternative take appeared again as part of ‘Bag of Trix‘ in 2020.
Thoughts? Could this have been a single?
