‘Pay The Price‘ was actually released as a double aa single alongside ‘Anyone‘ in Japan, released 1st May 1999. The CD itself became an instant collectors item. Here we’ve grouped it together with the ‘Have A Nice Day‘ outtake of ‘I Was So Lucky‘, known as ‘The Golden Blow‘ version.

‘Pay The Price‘ is super fun, classic Roxette with Per and Marie sharing vocal duties. It’s easy to understand why it was picked to accompany ‘Anyone‘ and it’s a shame it wasn’t this format that was used on the worldwide single release. As Per rightly said, it was single-worthy.

‘The Golden Blow‘ was a welcome surprise too when it was finally let out of The Roxette Vault as part of the ‘Bag of Trix‘ series in 2020. The subtitle refers directly to the inclusion of a prominent soprano saxophone played by Swedish musician Jonas Knutsson.

It’s a completely different mix to the album version, with a much more jazz-tinged focus, complementing Marie’s sublime vocal performance and giving a whole new and more intimate atmosphere. The original song was written for Per’s son.

Alas, neither ‘Pay The Price‘ or ‘I Was So Lucky‘ were performed live by Roxette.
