Crash! Boom! Bang! (Single)

A misleading title, who’d have thought it would be an emotional heart-wrenching ballad? Cos’ every time…

Crash! Boom! Bang!

Upon seeing the album title in the sleeve for ‘Sleeping In My Car‘…

From the fifth Roxette Album “CRASH! BOOM! BANG!” coming to a record store near you!

Everyone assumed, us included, that it must be in similar style to the first single. How wrong we all were. Only Per could take such a phrase and turn it into a beautiful and now classic ballad.

Great choice for a single, although, could it perhaps have been dropped as single number three? Who knows. It was another big hit throughout Europe, in Germany it spent over five months on the singles chart.

I recall reading a review in Smash Hits! magazine in the UK where they have some boy band reviewing the new releases for the week. They all really like the single and praised Marie’s vocals. We got a promo performance in the UK too, on Pebble Mill – a daytime talkshow. They performed ‘Run To You‘ too. Both playback however (see video clips below).

The video is a story too. Directed by Michael Geoghegan, featured Marie ascending a never-ending circular staircase. It had to be filmed twice before release, due to technical issues.

“The first version turned out to have technical problems with the audio sync.
We had to re-shoot the entire video! The director, Michael, and the insurance company almost had heart attacks.
We had to start all over again. No big deal. We regarded [the first version] as a £250,000 rehearsal.
Ah, the music biz in those days.”

All worth it in the end, as the final result was amazing. Such a cool video! (see below).
