Fireworks
‘Fireworks’…one of those songs that might just change your life?
“I love watching all your Fireworks…”
This should have always been bigger success than it was. All the ingredients were there and expectations were high. It was a so-so hit throughout various regions in Europe, another Top 30 in the UK, thanks to another cool 2 Part CD single format which kept it alive a bit longer. Remember those?
‘Fireworks‘ wasn’t shown much love in the years following release, other than being performed during the ‘Crash! Boom! Bang! World Tour 1994/1995‘ it was largely forgotten, or more so, overlooked. It was omitted from 1995’s ‘Don’t Bore Us – Get To The Chorus!‘, then as part of 2006’s ‘The Rox Box‘ and finally as part of ‘XXX – The 30 Biggest Hits‘ in 2015. Poor ‘Fireworks‘.
It did get the remix treatment back in the day however, with ‘Jesus Jones‘ taking the track to a very different place. It’s not a bad remix, but it’s also not a great remix. It could have been better.
The video was another cool one, again from Michael Geoghegan (‘Almost Unreal‘, ‘Sleeping In My Car‘ and ‘Crash! Boom! Bang!‘) which was mainly centred in and around London’s Piccadilly Circus and the London Underground.
The single cover and alternative shots were also used as for the ‘Crash! Boom! Bang! World Tour 1994/1995‘ Tour Programme. Do you have a copy?
Interestingly, the ‘Crash! Boom! Bang!‘ album was initially entitled ‘Fireworks‘. Not much else to really say about the song, other than it should have had more love and attention than it got. Do you agree?
