CINNAMON STREET :: A ROXETTE x IKEA Collaboration

IKEA has announced the launch of a new cultural collaboration platform, beginning with a Café concept developed in close partnership with PER GESSLE of ROXETTE. The concept combines Scandinavian interior design, curated music and contemporary Swedish cuisine.

Folks, this is one of our infamous April Fools pranks. Every year on April 1, we're trying to come up with an incredible story that sounds too good to be true and in fact it never really is. Hope you enjoy this little joke of ours. Here's a list of almost all our pranks so far. Thanks!

IKEA Launches Café Concept with PER GESSLE of ROXETTE

The café, named CINNAMON STREET, will open at Hotel Tylösand in Halmstad in Autumn 2026, with additional locations planned for Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö by Spring 2027.

The initiative marks IKEA’s first foray into music and entertainment-led hospitality and forms part of a broader strategy to extend the company’s presence into city-centre environments. The move follows the introduction of smaller-format high street stores in 2025 and builds on more design-led collections such as The Stockholm Range.

While CINNAMON STREET carries the ROXETTE name, the project is positioned as a joint venture between IKEA and GESSLE. Roxette celebrates its 40th Anniversary milestone in 2026, and GESSLE remains one of Sweden’s most internationally successful musicians, with over 80 million albums sold worldwide.

Interiors are designed by ÅSA GESSLE, known for her work at Hotel Tylösand. The space incorporates warm timber, stainless steel accents and marble detailing, with soft lighting and clean geometric lines intended to create a relaxed, intimate atmosphere.

The menu has been developed by EMMA BENGTSSON, Executive Chef at AQUAVIT in New York and the first Swedish woman to hold two Michelin Stars. Her approach blends Nordic tradition with subtle international influences.

By day, CINNAMON STREET will operate as a café focused on fika and open sandwiches. In the evening, it will transition into informal dining centred on sharing platters and seasonal dishes. Highlights include Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberry, a Scandinavian Smörgås Board featuring Gravlax and Rye, Pan-Seared Sea Trout with Brown Butter, and a Chicken, Leek and Dill Pie designed for sharing. Cocktails include Gin and Grapefruit, Whiskey Sours, Champagne selected by Gessle from his own range.

The Café will also feature a curated ROXETTE and Swedish music playlist, selected by GESSLE, which will be made available on streaming platforms.

IKEA says the initiative reflects its ambition to create immersive lifestyle environments beyond traditional retail, positioning Scandinavian design as both functional and social.

CINNAMON STREET will open at Hotel Tylösand in Autumn 2026, with further locations scheduled to follow in Spring 2027.
