“Gimme Gimme Real Sugar!”

‘Real Sugar‘ served as the second official single from the ‘Room Service‘ album, released in June 2001. Alas, this one wasn’t released here in the UK so I had to import it. It’s a great piece of bubblegum pop and its bonkers that it didn’t perform better than it did.

“For me this was probably the key track on ‘Room Service’… For me it’s that kind of pop music,
bubblegum pop music that I love in the same style as ‘Opportunity Nox’ or ‘Dressed for Success’…
This is like a three cord pop song, there’s been loads of them…
I love to do these kind of songs, we kept a lot of ideas from the demo”.

The single was released on various formats and we got an amazing array of b-sides, including some previously unheard. We got ‘It Will Take A Long Long Time (Modern Rock Version)‘ for the first time, as well as a great remix entitled ‘Shooting Star Treatment‘.

The video for the single was equally as awesome. We got Roxette performing on an imaginary late night talk show with puppets. The video was directed by Jesper Hiro. It’s a great fun video that matches the vibe of the song. Interestingly, the Roxette puppet band were designed to mimic The Ramones, or so the story goes.
