Marie’s 60 for 60. #39 Längtan (Intro) (Longing) Yet another opening track, this time for Efter Stormen. The longer version of it features as track #7 on the album, and without giving away too much information, we will deal with it later, too. For now sit back, relax and listen to this masterpiece, please. #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/langtan/

Happy Birthday dearest Göran Fritzon, aka. Fritz, aka. The Farfisa Fantom aka. Fritte!

Marie’s 60 for 60. #40 Het vind (Hot Wind). We’re reaching the Top 40 of our playlist, and we do this in style with the title song of Marie’s first solo album. The lyrics, written by Ulf Lundell, are a bit surreal we think. “The fans spin, the curtains sway/In the sea barracudas and sharks swim /Everyone is waiting in the bar’s darkness/Semi-closed eyes and thunder rumbles/There is a hot wind blowing in” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/het-vind/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #41 Efter så många år (After So Many Years). Do people sometimes worry about you? Yes? Good! No? Good! You see, it’s tricky sometimes. In this song from the 1996 album I en tid som vår you can find both questions and answers that matter. Enjoy this strong song! “Do you have time for yourself?/Do you have time for love?/In a time like ours?/After so many years/I am strong enough./After so many years./After so many years/Feels wonderful to look back./Thank God!/That I have become strong enough.” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/efter-sa-manga-ar/

YouTube won’t let us upload this video, so we’ll try it this way. It’s our version of Why Don’t You Bring Me Flowers?. It was supposed to be for the fast version of the song, but the slow version fit better.

Marie’s 60 for 60. #42 Tid för tystnad (Time For Silence) This beautiful little ballad from “Den ständiga resan” tells you about the feelings of a couple which can only be together at rare occasions, like you would imagine it to be with one of them permanently touring the world, for instance. And then it’s good when you can just sit side by side and say nothing… “We have got to start over/so many times over again/If we only have time for silence/When we look and listen and listen/Give us time for silence” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/tid-for-tystnad/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #43 Värdighet (Dignity). The opening track of Den sjunde vågen (The 7th Wave, more about this maybe later) is great proof that Marie is able to write uptempo dance songs even though the topic is not of the lighter kind. Dignity needs strength, especially when you are with someone who likes to bend the truth sometimes: “Where does it come from/this feeling that something’s wrong/Are these just phantasies or do you play a double game?/That’s nothing I can or want to do something about/It’s just my dignity!” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/vardighet/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #44 Skyll på mej (Blame Me). Another song that has not been written by Marie but a musician named Per Andersson. “A time without questions/A breeze without waves/Smile against all the winds”. The guitar was played by Staffan Astner who later would work for not only Marie and Roxette but also for Ray Charles and Celine Dion. #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/skyll-pa-mej/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #45 Tag detta hjärta (Take This Heart). An uptempo song, to be found on Het Vind from 1984 and written by… yes, Per Gessle and Lasse Lindbom. One in our team says it sounds a bit like Roxette’s How Do You Do which would be released not less than six years later. Do you agree? #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/tag-detta-hjarta/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #46 Det blåser en vind (A wind blows). This powerful ballad was written by Lasse Lindbom, a big name in Swedish pop business and an important patron for both Marie’s and Per’s careers. Lasse, Marie, Per and Mats MP Persson formed the band Exciting Cheeses and performed their songs live, and that was just shortly before Rolf Nygren of EMI had an idea that lead to the recording of the song “Neverending Love” for a project called “Roxette”. But I guess this is a different story… #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/det-blaser-en-vind/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #47 Låt mej andas (Let Me Breathe). Here we are back to Efter stormen with a song that describes the feeling when someone cares about you just a bit too much. “I know you’re trying/i know you mean well/but it’s never easy/and it will always be wrong/You hear everything I say/You see everything I do/but if you tighten the thread/keep in mind that it’s brittle/
Let me breathe!” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/lat-mej-andas/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #48 Tusen ögon (Thousand Eyes). Het Vind (Hot wind) was one of Marie’s most energetic albums. It was her first solo album at all. Tusen ögon is about a love that’s gone, gone to someone else but you’re still longing for it… “You put big marks in my soul/So big that they will always be there/But my powers should never end/Because I’m right/to feel as long as I can” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/tusen-ogon/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #49 Min trognaste vän (My Most Faithful Friend). Today we let the lyrics speak for themselves: “You, my most faithful friend, I will do all I can/So you feel freedom without a band./My faithful little friend/Fall asleep still beside me/I rock you, slowly you.” Who do you think this wonderful ballad was written for? #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/min-trognaste-van/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #50 Veronica. So we are entering the Top 50 of what we believe are Marie’s best songs, we hope you could agree with us so far. Do you remember Ann Katrin? Veronica was yet another of Cornelis Vreeswijk’s characters, this song too was covered by Marie for the album “Den flygande holländaren” (The Flying Dutchman), a collection of Cornelis’ songs rerecorded by famous Swedish artists after his death. By the way, Marie was involved in not less than four songs on this compilation. More of them to follow here? Let me check… #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/veronica/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #51 När du såg på mig (When You Looked At Me). After a series of rather dark and slow songs we now experience a new side of Marie’s music. Loud, energetic, life-affirming. Which should not surprise you when you know that this one is a love song which deals with the feelings when your love wakes up next to you in the morning. Sung by Marie along with Lasse Lindbom who, at these times, actually were a real couple. Who would have thought? #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/nar-du-sag-pa-mig/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #52 Till sist (Finally/At Last). We think that this song stands out. Marie’s unique voice supported only by an occasional accord. It’s pure, nothing distracts you from its message. “At last you came/At last at last/I love you my friend/More than you can ever imagine/I never thought that love/
was such a big emotion”. What do you think? #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/till-sist/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #53 Aldrig tillbaka mer (Never Back Again). The title is quite similar to yesterday entry at #54 but the song’s attitude is a completely different one. While Aldrig mer igen sounded helpless and hopeless, Aldrig tillbaka mer features a self-confident Marie who looks forward and “Knows what feels right/Now that the soul is strong…I will never return/To what once was./No, never back again.” Have a great Sunday, dear readers. #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/aldrig-tillbaka-mer/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #54 Aldrig mer igen (Never Again). “Het vind” was Marie’s first solo album and musically a huge contrast to what she had done before in her bands Strul and Mammas Barn. In “Aldrig mer igen”, Marie is strolling through the streets at night without an aim, suddenly realising that something important has vanished from her life. Whether it is a person that died, a friend who left or a dark cloud on one’s soul… she leaves it up to you to decide… #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/aldrig-mer-igen/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #56 Drömmen (The Dream). Everyone has a dream, for some of us it’s just a recurring nighttime activity, others are literally escaping into another world. So does Marie in her song which you can find on “I en tid som vår”. What starts with an innocent glockenspiel turns into a jam session in the end. “I have never dreamed so well/Like tonight/I dreamed I was safe in love/Do you know that/I got faith back/Just for one night/I have never dreamed so well/Like tonight, like last night”. Sleep well, dear TDR readers unless checking our page is the first thing you do in the morning. #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/drommen/

The Look

Rockabilly fabulous version av “The look”

Bäst när det gäller (Best when it counts) may not apply to the Swedish soccer team, but for sure to Gyllene Tider.

Gyllene to make the Swedish soccer anthem!

Marie’s 60 for 60. #56 Jag brände din bild (I burnt your picture). This is another sad song about the time after breaking up with somebody. Marie wrote in her biography that despite “Efter stormen” was her first solo album after she and Lasse Lindbom had parted ways, this song is not about them. Lasse even carried on supporting Marie, so it won’t surprise you that he not only co-wrote this song along with Marie but also produced the album. “I burnt your picture/with regret as fuel/and the flame was blue/like my sorrow”. #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/jag-brande-din-bild/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #57 Det jag verkligen ville (What I really wanted). This song, to be found on “Den ständiga resan”, is about saying good-bye to someone important who made his decision, now leads a life without you and you just wanted to say one more thing that sadly won’t be heard anymore: “I never wanted to lose you,you were my best friend, and I believe I loved you, I believe that I still do. But what I really wanted, you will never understand…” #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/det-jag-verkligen-ville/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #58 Vinterängel (Winter Angel). In the old times, before the people in the North lived in well insulated houses and the freezing cold winter was a real threat to their lives, people called up to the winter angels to protect them and bring them safely through the cold season. So does Marie here in this song which you can find on her 1996 album “I en tid som vår” (In a Time Like Ours): “Winter angel, give me new hope for a better time that we can live in”. Winter, of course, can also stand for a hard time in life… #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/vinterangel/

Marie’s 60 for 60. #59 Ann-Katrin, farväl (Farewell, Ann-Katrin) Originally written and sung by Dutch-Swedish artist Cornelis Vreeswijk, to be found on his last studio album Till Fatumeh (To Fatumeh). He recorded this song in 1987 just two months before his death, knowing he wouldn’t have to live much longer due to cancer. Ann-Katrin is one of the recurring characters in Vreeswijk’s work, just like Per’s Jo-Anna. Marie covered this song for the Cornelis compilation album Den flygande holländaren in 1987 and later it ended up on the re-release of Den ständiga resan (The Eternal Journey). #marie60 https://www.dailyroxette.com/ann-katrin-farval/
