Baby Roxers – The Lullaby Hits (Vol 1) a review
When I first heard about this project I felt “hmmm?” What can be done to Per’s classic melodies that hasn’t already been done?
But I also thought it may turn out nicely. Then I got messages from friends online saying this was like the midis floating around the Internet 10-15 years ago. So, I found myself on iTunes listening to the snippets there. And I liked what I heard! I bought the damn thing right there and then! I was never into midis, I’m not that kind of nerd (I am a nerd though I guess, just not that kind), but this doesn’t sound at all like the midis I’ve heard. What comes to mind hearing these renditions isn’t lullabies either, although I clearly understand that they are made for kids. No, what comes to mind is relaxing after a hard day at work, or being in a spa somewhere. Very soothing and nicely performed.
My two favorites are “Stars” which is very unexpected, as I can’t really stand it when Roxette plays it, and then “Silver Blue”. Both are very ethereal, granted all tracks are, but these stand out, to me. All tracks are nice, but songs like “Listen to Your Heart” and “Spending My Time” are what they are – more or less the same, minus drums and vocals. Funniest track must be “Good Karma” which also works. The ending track is “Go to Sleep”, fittingly enough.
My verdict – if you have kids or need to relax, this is an album for you! If not, go get something else, Metallica perhaps.
