I’m Sorry

Here we have another ballad, one that should have been an official single release, especially considering its popularity at the time… ‘I’m Sorry’.

“The first time we met, time stood still…”

One of the best ballads featured on ‘Crash! Boom! Bang!‘.

While ‘I’m Sorry‘ was never officially released as a commercial single, the song became hugely popular throughout South America, especially in Brazil where it was distributed to local radio stations as part of a promotional collection issued by EMI Brazil, called ‘PROMO DIAL 9’.

The CD compilation seen below featured Roxette together with other artist like Duran Duran and Radiohead. Interestingly, the actual official single release elsewhere in the world, ‘Vulnerable‘ also featured:

The I’m Sorry impact on Brazilian radio was unexpected, and at the height of its popularity mid-1995, the track broke records by reaching 40 plays PER DAY at some stations. This was quite remarkable, as major hits at that time would typically achieve 20-25 plays per day.

The radio success was significant enough to be discussed with Per and Marie during an MTV Brazil interview (see the video clip below), where they were both surprised by the songs success and whether they should reconsider releasing it officially. That of course never happened as the ‘CBB’ era came to a close shortly before all the ‘Don’t Bore Us – Get To The Chorus!‘ promotion and associated releases began.

I’m Sorry‘ was sadly never performed live during the Crash! Boom! Bang! World Tour 1994/1995, or any subsequent Tours for that matter.

It’s an ideal candidate for the current Roxette 2026 Tour. It would certainly suit Lena, and would be interesting to hear how the song would sound on stage. I’m sure Per and the Rox band could do something very special with it.

The song did however resurface as part of ‘Baladas en Español’ in 1996, where it was translated into Spanish as ‘Cuánto Lo Siento‘ / ‘I’m So Sorry‘.

What do you think? Should it have been an official single for the ‘CBB‘ era?

– This particular song would have been amazing to hear as an acoustic or even remixed version.
