Fingertips’93

The third and final ‘official’ single from ‘TOURISM’ with an updated version of ‘Fingertips’ from, well, the clue is in the title…

Fingertips ’93, another single oddity, was released in select regions only. Namely, Sweden, Germany, Australia, The Netherlands, even Malaysia.

I never knew about this single release at the time (Thomas2), and just happened to be in Manchester on a shopping trip, and discovered the CD Single in HMV as an Import. What luck!
Fingertips’93 wasn’t officially released here in the UK as a stand-alone single. Of course I bought it, and still have it in fact.

More b-side gems were included here, with even more live cuts from Sydney 1991 ‘Dressed For Success‘ and ‘Hotblooded‘. We’re getting the full Sydney 1991 gig according to Per, more on that the in the recent ROX40 Interview. The ‘Look Sharp‘ outtake ‘The Voice‘ also featured (one of my faves).

Fingertips’93 unfortunately didn’t do much chart-wise and ended up being a minor hit here and there. It did have another spell in the spotlight as b-side to the upcoming single, ‘Almost Unreal‘ which was a much much wider release. More on that one later in the Countdown.

‘Fingertips’

Written for the Tourism project, which was an album we recorded while touring all over the world in 1991-92…
‘Fingertips’ was recorded during some hours in Rio De Janeiro by the way. No sunscreen needed that day

It’s one of my favourite tracks…
I remember hearing the demo version sung by Per and fell in love.
It’s a great song, it’s warm, and the lyrics are so special.
I hope we can release it as a single in the future as it’s so catchy

Marie Fredriksson, ‘Talking About Tourism’, 1992

We didn’t get to hear the demo for this one until ‘TOURISM 30th Anniversary’ made it to streaming (Vinyl re-issue one day please). Until that point, we only had two versions on Streaming, and now, just the three. Madness for such a cool and mighty underrated song.

The really cool video was directed by Jonas Åkerlund, featuring minimal white and black themes. Oh and a heavily pregnant Marie head to foot in leather.

Stevo did feature Fingertips’93 in an earlier TDR 2015 series called Ghost Tracks, read all about it here:
