Last Sunday there was a fun Q&A published with Per Gessle in Aftonbladet Söndag. Among other things you'll get to know who would play the main role in a movie about Mr. G's life and who would sing the soundtrack. 😉 Check out the Q&A at the link below! ✌ /PP

Martin Stjernhufvud's new single. (The other Ma in MaMa's barn, remember?). The song is produced and almost entirely performed by MP Persson.

21 questions to Per Gessle in Aftonbladet Söndag

There is a 2-page Per Gessle article in Aftonbladet Söndag’s 2nd September 2018 issue. Nina Jakobson asked Mr. G 21 interesting questions and he answered them in his entertaining, Gessleish way. Here it is in English. 1. Two albums last year and one this year. How many songs do you actually have in you? – ... Read more

An interview with Per Gessle about songwriting, from Germany! 🎶 /PP Read it here: https://www.laut.de/Per-Gessle/Interviews/Popmusik-bedeutet-heute-nicht-mehr-viel-07-09-2018-1610 Part of it in English: laut.de: - Is there a fundamental difference between singing pop music in Swedish and in English? PG: - I think there are big differences. Traditionally, when you are my age, you are growing up with English-language music - the music of the '60s and '70s. English is more musical, Swedish is harder when it comes to consonants and pronunciation. But there is this other aspect as well: for me as a Swedish native speaker it is of course more difficult to write in English than in Swedish. Of course it also depends on what the text is about. But if it gets very personal, I can dig much deeper in Swedish. I can put things much more precisely to the point. The texts on "Small Town Talk" had their origin in Swedish, then they were translated into English. I couldn't translate six of the texts into English, I had written them in Swedish precisely, but needed someone else to translate them. This is a typical problem: if you put a line of text to the point, you can't translate it. laut.de: - You would have to start from scratch again. PG: - Yes exactly. And that's impossible: you can’t start again. One would have to do everything again, write from a different angle. That is too difficult. The same goes for music: if you have the best verse in the world but you can't think of a chorus, then it's best to look for someone else and ask him to help with the chorus. If you're stuck, you're stuck, that's the way it is. That's why you leave so many songs somewhere, at least that's what my work is all about. You make mistakes and they are irreplaceable. You have to leave things behind and perhaps return after a few years. laut.de: - As a songwriter you build on strong melodies and choruses. When you write the music, do you already have the language in mind? Or do you sing fantasy lyrics and nonsense lyrics to get on the hookline? PG: - Many do it that way. I have a publishing company with some songwriters and many send demos with nonsense lyrics just to demonstrate the song. I don't do that, I almost always have a project in my head. I need an intention behind it. I'm not the guy sitting behind the piano for six hours a day to see what comes out of it. I had the idea of going to Nashville with acoustic songs - to see what they sound like when I play them with Nashville session musicians. That was the idea: it should also be in Swedish. Then I simply wrote and wrote, for this purpose. I know early in which language I want to sing and which project it will be.

Small Town Talk by Per Gessle - Year of production 2018

RoxetteBlog.com

One more Per Gessle interview from Austria. Mr. G talks about his career, songwriting, Roxette, Marie, the tour and his new solo album, "Small Town Talk". Practice your German! ;) /PP Read the interview here: https://www.krone.at/1765249 Part of it in English: krone.at: - Marie has always been considered being a strong, chaotic person and you a meticulously organized worker. Was that the special magic of your artistic relationship? PG: - We were always really very different people and that was probably it. We complemented each other. I always say that my songs got so much better when Marie sang them and Clarence produced them. Before Roxette I was always missing the groove in my songs. Clarence has equipped the songs with more funk so he has changed the arrangements significantly. He did not change my style, but the result. When I realized that Marie had such a powerful voice, I was just happy. On our debut album "Pearls Of Passion" there was the first song "Soul Deep" - with her voice it sounded completely different. So much better. It was like writing a brand new song because when I sang it, it just sounded too ordinary. On the other hand, what Marie liked about me is that I could build the foundation for her. She and her then boyfriend couldn't write such songs. I made the material and she finished it. That was the main part of our magic. krone.at: - Are you still in regular contact with her today? PG: - Of course we are always in contact. We talk very often. She had her 60th birthday at the end of May. She lives with her family now very withdrawn and of course I fully understand that.

Another Per album is out! Read about it here!

Warner Music Sweden

Roxette FIRAR KLASSISK PERIOD MED TVÅ NYA SAMLINGSBOXAR. Today Sweden – tomorrow the rest of the world.” Per Gessle Två nya samlingsboxar dokumenterar denna unika svenska musikhistoria.

Review coming up at midnight! Be there!

Expressen: Did you feel that Roxette died when Marie quit? Per: I can't say that Roxette died, because the classic Roxette with Marie lives on because you hear the songs all the time, but that was an end because it was a heavy mark she made not to tour anymore. That she said it will not work to record more songs. And I also felt that during the last album, "Good Karma", that there was a limit to what she could sing. It was a choice she made. The voice didn'It carry anymore, it could not express the songs the way she wanted. Of course it was sad. What the hell...
