It Just Happens: Listen now!

Marie and Per share the vocal duties on their first single.

Digital music service provider DEEZER has the brand new Roxette single “It Just Happens” from their forthcoming album to be released on the 3rd of June 2016. (It has been removed from Deezer but you can find it on Roxette’s Soundcloud.)

“It’s a cabaret, taking over on a quiet lazy backseat day…”

Roxette are back with a brand new big ballad! “I Want You to Know”, meets “A Thing About You”, with a touch of Coldplay is one way to describe the brand new Roxette single “It Just Happens”.

Vocally, Marie is back in fine form, soaring on the chorus and Per sets up the verses with his vocals over a stirring piano that sets the tone for a powerful new ballad.

The Lyrics:

It’s a cabaret, taking over on a quiet lazy backseat day
And it’s so beautiful
Like the sunshine on your balcony
Just yesterday

Don’t underestimate
Your heart is never late
And love will always find a way

It just happens
You don’t know what’s going on
If it’s new or if it’s been there since long
If it’s right or wrong
You fall in love
You fall in love

You don’t have a say
Just let it slide and close your eyes and watch the passion play
Don’t underestimate
Your heart can never wait
And love will always find a way

You fall in love
It just happens
You fall in love
It just happens

Don’t underestimate
Your heart can never wait
Love will always find a way

It just happens and you don’t know what’s going on

Hi ! Modern Milk An Toast And Honey with Coldplay feeling, from my point of view. I really like this new updated sound and wow, Marie sings again like she did on Pearls Of Passion. And yes, sometimes it sounds like modern version of Voices mixed with Wish i could fly … Great song for me … 🙂

    • Stevo Petkovic

Team Roxette have surely got to be happy with a reaction like that! 😉
Thanks for your positive thoughts. Takes a while to grow I think…

    • Man, exactly my point of view, you stole every my word. 😀 MATAH with Coldplay, great updated sound, POP reminiscence (Voices, Surrender, So Far Away feelings)… I´m really curious about uptempo songs cos I really love this production. So Mazarin/SOAP sound is gone now. And it´s good. This is Roxette.

  • Ignasi

After the “back to basics” “back to the oldies” approach in “Travelling” they’re coming with a new sound that’s really fresh in the Roxette world – maybe not so much in radios all around the world-. Really nice melodies and gorgeous production. Interesting.

    • Edu B.

I agree with you my friend! Production is great! 😉

      • Ignasi

And what about the album cover? 😛

  • Alberto Garcia

Love it… The vocals, the melody, the emotion you can feel… amazing! Don´t try to find if it sounds like other band… just enjoy the song!

  • Rixsob

I really loved it! Surely a step in the right direction. Even though the lyrics are very simple, the song has a universal quality to it, a certain richness of theme and observation. Both Per’s and Marie’s vocals are great. I can hardly wait to listen to the rest of the album.

  • disqus_ggvdslgvY6

Deezer doesn’t seem to be available in the US.
I wanna hear new Roxette! 🙁

  • Eduardo Fernandes

In heaven with this song!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful lyrics, beautiful melody!!! Beautiful duet!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Martin

Love It! Back to the roots. Old Rox lyrics with a new sound. Cant get enough f it!

  • I must admit: the song not captivated me at first hearing.

First of all, I was a little disappointed when I realised that it’s not sung only by Marie. Then I thought the melody was a little empty, missing lyrics, but suddenly I was understanding better the structure of the song and this strange feeling has passed. In the third hearing, the magic happened.

“It Just Happens” is Roxette today. Fresh and new, pointing forward.

I don’t know if it will have any impact on the charts, but I don’t give a damn. My idols are now in such good shape, making music of the highest quality, and it’s all that matters to me. Can’t wait to heart the “Rox10” in full.

  • Alberto Garcia

BTW… about the lyrics… I think it´s “If it’s NEW or if it’s been there since long” 😉

  • Chris

The direction is good but I don’t think it is a good single choice. A good chorus is missing and sometimes when Marie is singing “It Just happens” it seems out of place. Hopefully it will grow on me.

    • Tridy

I think that Marie’s voice higher pitch voice tries to drive the whole song higher. And I agree with you that “it just happens” part is overused a bit.

  • Neil Curran

I really like it after a few listens, though I’m trying not me make a judgement too quickly, as I quite often change my mind! The grammatical mistake in the chorus annoys me though- “been there since long”- a native speaker would never say that.

  • Kathie Winn

Interesting reading the many opinions here and on Facebook. Many different reasons for liking or not liking. I guess if we all only liked the same thing there might as well only be one radio station in the world, so difference of opinion is a good thing I think.
As for my personal thoughts….. which are just that…. mine, so not really important. =

I was glad to hear Per’s vocals on the track, his vocals are always, ALWAYS a favourite. I think it’s nice when there’s both vocals, because that to me is Roxette.
The cover – I’m not fussed either way, it’s eye catching I guess but personally I always like the faces of the artist on covers.
The song – I don’t mind it, I don’t love it yet either, it’s early days and that could change after more listens. But for me… more uptempo songs please!! If I only had the two albums… The Ballard Hits & The Pop Hits, I would play the Pop Hits 90% of the time. But really, who has only two Roxette albums.
    Always thankful though.

  • Tridy

    Thanks for the news!
I actually thought that the butterfly artwork was the April 1st joke. Not a typical choice for a Rox artwork, I would say.
As about the song, it felt a bit strange to hear the title in the very beginning of the song. I prefer that coming a bit later. And the video/radio edit would have to be shorter a bit, so we will see how that goes. Otherwise, I think they have got good parts together this time, a step above “Traveling” and “Charm School”, imho. A combination of “A Thing About You” and kicking in sort of “Listen To Your Heart” — a well done production as well. Lets wait for the video now.

  • Skyrider

    WOW! I’M BLOWN AWAY!!!
Luckily it’s not a boring ballad.

  • Adam

Not available on SoundCloud or Deezer 🙁

  • Peter

I do like the chorus but I miss some acoustic guitars (would be great if they started in verse 2 till the rest of the song), Marie’s voice is a bit to “sharp/loud/shrill” sometime and I don’t like fade outs – but all in all, a great modern pop song.

  • Ettexor

    no more available 🙁

  • Mat

Don’t underestimate, your heart is never late. Worst Roxette lyric?

Okay, I love ‘It just happens’. Took me 5 times to listen to it and then it hit me. I was completely overwhelmed. I am a grown man and listen to this song with tears streaming down my face.

To me ‘it just happens’ sounds like ‘wish i could fly’, ‘cooper’ and ‘salvation’ collided.

Per and Marie, this is incredible. Wasn’t all that convinced with Charm School or Travelling (Besides lover, lover, lover), but ‘it just happens’ is world class! You make me proud!

    • THIERRY HENON

CHARM SCHOOL and TRAVELLING ARE 2 great albums on their owns…okay it sounds different to any records they released before that but still great cds!!
if any of you is a fan of ROXETTE then you will like these 2 albums…maybe not love them as much as LOOK SHARP, JOYRIDE or Have a nice day but still they are good!!
Totally agree with you Mat….a mix with WISH I COULD FLY (love the video) and SALVATION ( my 2nd best ever song from ROXETTE but nothing to compare with COOPER!!

  • Jonas Pieniniemi

This “removed for copyright issues” really bugs me.. Why not release the single properly and not this crappy way,

  • Jonas Pieniniemi

http://www.apelzin.ru/news/roxette-it-just-happens-listen.html you can find it here 🙂 I must say i like it. It has a really epic sound production with helps alot. 🙂

  • Jonas Pieniniemi

    *which 😉

  • Sunny

I have the strange feeling this song will be a flop – as It’s Possible and The Look Remake. It has nothing special, no catchy chorus, no sound surprise, just classic Roxette without guitars, a too loud and improvising Marie and (a semi professional single cover haha). Plus the bad thing is Roxette can’t do TV shows with Marie’s condition and in fact there is no big TV show like “Wetten Dass” anymore. However. What counts is Per and Marie feel great about it. They don’t make music for the fans, they make it for themselves and thats the way it should be!! Its not important anymore, if a single is doing good in charts and on the radio or not. At least a very new album is coming (not a Greatest Hits this time!) and there must be at least 2 or 3 good tracks on it. Keep my fingers crossed and looking forward to June 3rd. I am happy they are back – no matter if the first single is great, good or average.

    • Ettexor

I was not able to listen to this new song, unfortunately you can not find it on the net ….. I’m sorry to read negative comments like this, I was hoping for something special, which would mark a big return

      • Sunny

Don’t worry, a lot of fans love this song. Maybe you too! It’s just my opinion. You can find the mp3 via Google.

        • Ettexor

thx i found it, and i like it!

    • THIERRY HENON

HELLO!! Roxette has kept making music for the last 30 years for their fans!!! not FOR THEM!! What a silly and weird comment to make!!
Obviously you are not a fan of ROXETTE as your”all” comment isn’t a negative-positive 1…1 to improve but just a nasty 1…
but I guess everybody is free to leave any kind of comment….just according to me, your 1 ain’t welcome!!

      • Sunny

Calm down, please and have a nice day.

        • THIERRY HENON

you are just weird as well as your comment dear…please calm down and take it easy sunny!!

          • TheFanOf26Years

I see only one weird person here…

      • TheFanOf26Years

How can you say, “you can’t be a fan” because they make a negative comment about a new single, that’s like playground stuff. Roxette are never going to be successful especially back in the UK, have you seen tickets sales for Greenwich and Tatton Park? You trying to promote Roxette in the UK is lame, you are years to late, fans have tried time and time again, so give it a break Roxette will never have UK success, this is not 1991!

      • Mat

If you are a fan, and I am a fan, I am ashamed.

  • Peter

Now I know what song it reminds me of: MAKING LOVE TO YOU, don’t you think?

    • Coolbluez

Yes indeed I also felt the same.

  • Ettexor

I was finally able to hear it! I like a lot, a modern, new sound … reminds me breathe a little (maybe). roxette good, as always;) the thing that most impressed me is the beginning of the song: starts immediately with a chorus, as if it was already in the middle. excellent voice to marie.

    • Coolbluez

Exactly how I felt when she says ‘It happens’ as if taken from the middle of the song

  • JKerry

Listen here: http://best-muzon.com/online/listen72879.html -> Not a big fan of it, sorry 🙁

    • Moritz Walkner

THANK YOU! I was so curious reading all the positive and negative comments but I couldn’t find the song anymore. After 1 time listening I am a bit disappointed. Had very high expectations. It doesn’t sound “new” — more like one of those left overs we got on the RoxBox. Maybe it will grow on me. Hopefully.

      • Moritz Walkner

Sometimes you have to sleep over your opinion and it may change. In the case of this song didn’t change unfortunately. 🙁 I feel so bad and sorry to say Marie’s vocals are in some parts kind of annoying for me — and the sound of the production feels dated like it was a bonus-track from HAND.

    • TheFanOf26Years

Thanks for the link! First listen, I am not impressed…. poor lyrics and too noisy. They could have done better for a first single to celebrate their 30th year!

  • Eduardo Fernandes

A whole day listening to this song… Now I can tell about the details of “It Just Happens” , that really caught my attention. There’s an effect in 2:17 like Marie was singing “please” very fast, just after the verse “don’t understimated”. Great! Per’s voice is very good in this track… Marie too, of course. Like Per said, she sings like a goddess in this song. I really liked the production of it and the bridge. The chorus could be more powerful, but it doesn’t matter. The whole song is very good and EXTREMELY catchy.

However… I don’t think that this is the best ballad of the album, maybe it’s the more commercial. In Room Service, my favorite was “My World, My Love, My Life” and it was never a single. So I’m expecting for a song sang completely by Marie. It will happen. But I can’t complain. This album will be a beauty! They really put a lot of efforts on it. We can hear it! I’m very excited!

  • silviabräutigam

It is a new single out a Cd of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle sounds good only on June 3rd is indeed quite a while yet out. I hope that also in deuschland release the Cd of Marie and Per I wirt.hoffe I can buy the CD.

  • Lucian Esteves

One of the most powerful songs from the past few years! NOMIOHO is strong, but this one? C’mon! I really really love it… it hits me. I hope the album makes justice with this song. I was so excited about It’s Possible and ended up considering Travelling just ok. That cover… It kills me… Really.

  • Αλέξανδρος Μακρής

The first time I heard it I was speechless. The second time my eyes were fool of tears, exactly like you said Mat. Only Roxette music can do this to me! I travelled from the other part of Europe to see them in O2 Arena last summer, just to feel this way again! Cheers!!!

  • Krischan76

I am positively surprised – typical later-period Gessle songwriting, Marie gets bigger vocal parts and her voice slowly seems to approach its pre-disaster strength.

As for the arrangement, it’s just what I feared – HAND 2. Sounds like a remix, try-hard modern, neglecting the key characteristics of Rox sound. Eeeewwww!

  • Ettexor

i’m courious about the new video

  • Mads W. Schneider

I’m actually positively surprised. Although the song in itself is average, the overall impression is wonderful. The production sounds epic! The sound is rich and voluminous. Roxette has made a song that feels like summer. And it’s really punch in that drum beat. The chorus hits you with a BANG! in your stomach. A lot of great details in the production. A deep bass in the chorus.

Marie’s voice is strong and sounds like in the old days. The bridge with Per, sounds cool. All in all, impressive. Just imagine a hot summer’s evening with this on the car radio and the windows open. Or at the beach. Looking forward to the new album, this is promising 🙂

  • Marina Cirelli

The new song is quite ok for an album track like e.g. “Try”, “Cooper” or “Sitting on top of the world” but first single? Def No IMO. Hoping for better songs with “wow-effect” on the album. Still hope they change their mind and wait with the single release and release a better song together with the album instead 🙂

  • Ciprian

its sound like: my world my love my life. A great song, overall!

  • RobS

Lots of positive comments so far. Haven’t listened to it myself yet, but it seems that the majority are happy with this new single. If the album is on the same track it could very well be their best album since their 90’s heyday!

  • PaulR

Seeing it has been taken down, I am now listening on a Russian site mentioned on Aftonbladet. Sounds awesome!!

  • THIERRY HENON

Great single but please can ROXETTE be promoted this single in UK? They never bothered in the past….but hope they won’t be that lazy and spend a few “pounds” to do it….their last charting single was “STARS” at 56….It is my favourite single ever from them but seems like many fans don’t like HAND album…even though it sold nearly 3 M worldwide!!!!

    • David Andrew Carmon

If you look at the official charts website you will see that both Milk and Toast and Honey and A Thing About You both charted at #89 and #77

    • David Andrew Carmon

Milk and Toast and Honey charted at #89 and A Thing About You charted at #77 in the UK

  • Patrik O.

Neither fish nor meat as we say in Switzerland. Finally I could listen to it too. For me it’s not bad and it’s not good. When you have decent headphones you can hear a deep bass -this I like the most. Lyric-, vocal- & melodywise: An average Roxette song. By far not 1st single quality. I miss guitar riffs -and Mr. Jonas- and an upraising sound ( I don’t like when the 2nd verse is as boring as the 1st verse. I love it when a song get’s richer and fuller with every part ). I can imagine this song would make a good demo material for some other producers with exciting ideas.

  • Sagigi

    Great first single! Really frash!

  • Mads W. Schneider

Wow, the chorus of It just happens resembles the Coldplay hit Paradise! You can actually sing or play both on top of each other, it’s the same chords. That’s cool! Anybody able to make a mix of the two combined? 🙂

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G4isv_Fylg

  • dani

it seems to be a song for children, there is too much sugar. i would release it only with the voice of marie.

  • Thomas

It sounds like German Schlager. 🙁 Nice background music for elevators and shopping centers.

  • RobS

I think this one is a grower. The verses don’t do much for me, some more backing – a little guitar maybe – to fill them out would have been nice. But the chorus is strong musically, even if the lyrics aren’t anything special. I think this will be on repeat a bit over the weekend!

  • Ettexor

who know where i can download the new single in italy? thx

  • s1974x

The Roxette channel on YouTube has it and it is not region locked since I am having no problems playing it in the US. The production values are top notch and Per and Marie sound great, but this probably won’t become one of my favorite Roxette songs. Like I said, it’s a quality song but not my personal favorite style. I prefer their heavier songs, although I do consider several of their ballads as some of my personal favorites.

At first listen a couple months ago, I was shocked at how loud the song was, but when Marie started singing that chorus, I had that heart-leaping-in-my-chest, about to cry feeling that only Roxette’s music can create in me. I was bothered by the poor grammar (“since long”), but I’ve come to accept it as part of the song, and I understand why it was written that way–to rhyme. Wonder if I can find comments about the rest of the album. I’m dying to know what you guys think of it. I have many thoughts.

  • Does anyone know the name of the blond and bearded actor in this clip?
