Per Gessle presents Mono Mind Q&A - Part 1!

Per Gessle presents Mono Mind Q&A - Part 1!

YEP, THIS IS THE STORY: ”After basically living in a recording studio for almost forty years I tried to find new ways of creating pop music. I wanted to do something I’d never done before. A new challenge. Still pop, of course (that’s in my DNA!) but created and presented in a new manner. I started fooling around with different gadgets working with my own voice, recording in different octaves and different keys just to see what might pop up. In the end of the day it’s all about the voices. We all focus on the voices when we listen to pop music. We didn’t use vocoders or anything like that. Instead we found ourselves spending days, even weeks “hand-painting” and “drawing” my melodylines in the comouter. For some songs we created my voice in a r’n’b-fashion, others got a touch of Nine Inch Nails-desperation. In the end you couldn’t really hear it was me singing which was a blast and felt really refreshing. So off I went creating a new little colourful band, four characters with different personalities and different kind of temper, humour and looks to represent MONO MIND. How gorgeous! I had so much fun. Still do.”

Some more details about the Mono Mind concept: "I came up with the names pretty quickly, they all allude to someone or something from the pop history. Bright Jones plays on Brian Jones (Rolling Stones), Rain Davies on Ray Davies (The Kinks) and Dr Robot on The Beatles song "Doctor Robert"." "The voice is handmade using computer, it did not sound like that when I sang the songs. We have not used vocoders and such gadgets. Everything is created using different computer programs where I sang the songs in the wrong notes and in strange octaves, then we have stretched and bound in the vowels and consonants to create the voice and the phrasings." Per Gessle’s birthday gift for himself and the fans! Per Gessle presents Mono Mind ??? Album release 12th of January. Mono Mind consists of four fictive band members: Dr Robot, Cooky Carter, Bright Jones and Rain Davies. Over the last year they have released three singles, all of which have received international acclaim and entered the club and radio charts in both France and US. In US, the success includes a prestigious six-week long first position on the dance chart in the radio industry’s own magazine AllAccess, as well as top spots at iTunes Electronica and Amazon Electronica. In France, Mono Mind were nominated twice in NRJ DJ Awards 2018, in the categories “Best Group” and “The Best Club Hit Of The Year”. Now that Mono Mind is set to release their album all over the world, we can finally reveal that it is none other than Per Gessle who is behind this secret project! The master of pop himself comments: ”I had conceptualised an at least for ME new kind of pop music. I wanted to do something I’d never done before. I wanted to start in something classic but then to lift off and go in directions that I had never gone before, including serious experimentations with my own voice. When I noticed that no one could recognise that it was me singing the idea was born to create a cool, fictive, and animated band with roots in pop art as well as pop culture. It was so much fun!” The album is released on 12 January coinciding with Per Gessle’s 60th birthday as a gift for himself and the fans! ? ? ? ? Per 60 for 60 up until today! Missing two songs, and all songs may not be available in all countries. None are in Russia of course. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6luywxaqN4U8EJaFKPzNPn

Per's 60 for 60. #4 Being With You (the original 1997 demo). As you may know this was finally released on "Small Town Talk," this is however how Per planned it to sound in the beginning. A Tom Petty-esque song with 12-string guitar. Per comments: "Some songs never get finished. 'Being With You' is one of those. I've made several demos of it and fooled around with different intros, verses and keys, but for so many reasons it never came across the way I wanted it to. This first take was made in September 1997 when it was really fresh and written for 'Have a Nice Day,' built on a 12-string guitar strumming. Then I had another go in 2004 which felt much better, but it was still left out in the cold when the SOAP project got going in 2005. I like it a lot so... third time's the charm?" Noteable is that the 2004 demo lacks a verse. Top 3 left... #per60
