Baladas en Español

We’ve not long celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the compilation, Baladas en Español, read all about that below:

BALADAS EN ESPAÑOL

The first official #ROX40 release date has been confirmed: ‘BALADAS EN ESPAÑOL’ coming 17 April 2026. Let’s revisit the album.

Spending My Time‘ was given the Spanish treatment and became the lead single in 1996. This came after Roxette were constantly asked by their record company for Spanish versions of their hit songs. Eventually, they gave in and the album was born.

Spanish songwriter Luis Gómez-Escolar was in charge of the translated lyrics, some more successful than others we have to say.

Spending My Time‘ became ‘Un Día Sin Ti‘ which translated back to English as ‘A Day Without You‘.

As part of the promotional campaign Marie and Per had to wear traditional Spanish outfits including Flamenco and Matador garments, as well as eat only Tapas for months. Just kidding, obviously! They did shoot a brand new video, again directed by Jonas Åkerlund

As part of the #ROX40 Countdown, we’re only including ‘Un Día Sin Ti‘ but of course, ‘No Sé Si Es Amor‘ (‘It Must Have Been Love‘ / ‘I Don’t Know If It’s Love‘) was also released officially. Saying that, most songs on the album would go on to receive substantial amounts of airplay on Latin American and Spanish radio.

We’ll revisit the Spanish collection later in the #ROX40 Countdown with original outtake ‘You Don’t Understand Me’ released as a promotional single for the ‘Bag of Trix‘ compilation. Lots more to cover off before we get to that though and another trip to Spain.
