I Don’t Want To Get Hurt

The perfect ending to the perfect Greatest Hits album with ‘I Don’t Want To Get Hurt’.

“In everything I see you appear with me…”

The closing track from ‘Don’t Bore Us – Get To The Chorus!‘ was unfortunately not officially released as a commercial single. It could have, and really should have been the fourth and final cut from the Greatest Hits as it would have closed the era off perfectly.

“I was convinced that ‘I Don’t Want To Get Hurt’ was going to be the big song out of those four.
It was actually the only one that wasn’t released as a single.”
Per, In Conversation with Sven Lindström, The Per Gessle Archives

EMI did press a limited, and now rather rare promotional CD single specifically for radio stations in Brazil in November 1995. Another missed opportunity like ‘I’m Sorry‘ I hear you say?

I imagined a video for this song mirroring the photoshoot for the album, lots of whites, lots of flowers, slow calm movement, light flare transitions. Perhaps we should give it a whirl and try and make it one day?

Straight from the ‘DBUGTTC‘ booklet, lets allow Roxette do some of the talking, it is there song after all:

“A new song that explains why it’s so inspiring to work with Per… it just goes straight into my heart”.
Marie Fredriksson, The ‘DBUGTTC‘ Interview, 1995

“A nice contrast to ‘She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore‘. Wonderful string arrangement from Clarence again…
almost the same vibe as in ‘Vulnerable‘ or ‘It Must Have Been Love‘, but 1995.
I really don’t know where we’d have been without his input in songs like this. Not here anyway. Cheers”.
Per gessle, The ‘DBUGTTC‘ Interview, 1995

The following year, we would get to hear the song again, only this time translated into Spanish for ‘Baladas en Español‘, entitled ‘Quiero ser como tú‘ (‘I Want To Be Like You‘).

We never got to hear a live version of this one, not even playback.

It’s definitely a ballad highlight amongst the catalogue. Go give it a play…
