Melodifestivalen didn’t inspire pros
In Melodifestivalen competition the Swedes vote for Sweden’s song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Earlier this year 15 professional songwriters were invited to make a song for Melodifestivalen 1998 (see the article in the archive, search for Melodifestivalen), one of them being Per Gessle. However, Per didn’t find a suitable song for the contest. Neither did the other invited composers – only six of them sent a song before the dead-line. This doesn’t mean they would have only had six songs in the contest as there were also about 1100 amateur candidates for the finals. The finalists will be announced in December.
