Lover Lover Lover

Our second stop in the ‘Travelling‘ era is one that Per himself reckons deserved considerably more attention. We agree.

“Could you show me what love is about?”

“A couple of songs that I really like myself that weren’t singles like ‘I’m Sorry’, ‘Lover Lover Lover’ and ‘Dream On’”
Per Gessle, The Daily Roxette #ROX40 Interview, April 2026

‘Lover Lover Lover‘ was written right in the middle of Roxette’s seemingly never-ending World Tour, with Per recording the T&A Demo on August 10, 2011. He later recalled that the song felt important almost immediately, the sort of strong composition that helped convince him there was a proper new Roxette album taking shape, and we can hear why.

There’s something wonderfully relaxed about ‘Lover Lover Lover‘. Acoustic guitars, harmonica, a gorgeous melody and Per and Marie trading vocals without ever trying too hard. It has a slightly ’60s, almost Son of a Plumber flavour, but still sounds unmistakably Roxette.

The finished recording became track two on ‘Travelling‘ in March 2012, while Per’s original demo was included as an iTunes bonus track before later finding a permanent home on ‘The Per Gessle Archives‘. I do believe the demo was on the LP too if memory serves?

The song was eventually pushed to German radio in September 2012 as a promotional single in a new radio edit, although it never received the full commercial release, physical single or official video treatment you might have expected.

It also never made it onto the World Tour setlist, despite being written while Roxette were spending most of their lives on stage.

‘Lover Lover Lover‘ is one of those deceptively simple Gessle songs where everything just seems to fall naturally into place. Warm, melodic and effortlessly catchy, it’s one of the highlights of ‘Travelling‘ and absolutely deserved a bigger moment of its own.

Per thinks it’s underrated. We agree.
