Little Miss Sorrow

An imaginary single, in fact, an unplanned inclusion on ‘The Pop Hits’ …

“She had those magic eyes…”

“Can’t remember why this didn’t make the ‘Have A Nice Day’ album…
Marie and I liked it a lot. Sometimes you just have to kill your darlings.”

Per Gessle, Roxette Official Facebook, Feb2019.

Little Miss Sorrow‘ had quite the journey before finally finding it’s unplanned home on ‘The Pop Hits‘.

Per’s original T&A Demo was recorded in October 1997, with the song later worked on during the ‘Have A Nice Day‘ sessions in Marbella, Spain. Despite both Per and Marie liking the track, it ultimately missed making album. It stayed tucked away in The Roxette Vault for the next few years.

Then, in 2003, ‘Little Miss Sorrow‘ was finally given its moment, appearing as the closing track on ‘The Pop Hits‘.

It wasn’t supposed to be on the album at all, as another demo, ‘I Like It Like That‘ had been picked for Marie to record. After her diagnosis however, the plans had to quickly change. Sadly, ‘I Like It Like That‘ was never recorded by Marie for Roxette, it was however recorded for Per’s superb solo album, ‘Son of a Plumber‘ in 2005.

The unplanned inclusion of ‘Little Miss Sorrow‘ is far from second choice material though. Melancholy, melodic, slightly quirky around the edges and driven by a fantastic Per vocal. It’s a great track.

The song eventually found its way back ‘home‘ and was added to the expanded digital edition of ‘Have A Nice Day‘ in 2009, and remains part of the album’s expanded 2026 edition too.

We’re sure it’ll end up on the ‘Have A Nice Day 30th Anniversary‘ editions in 2029, well, hopefully.
