The Daily Roxette presents ROX40
It’s Possible (Version 1)
While on the road, Roxette created the unofficial follow-up to 1992’s ‘TOURISM’. The lead single was pop-perfection…
“It’s possible when you gimme that look…”
“2 minutes and 34 seconds of sunny pop music that shows one of Roxette’s many sides…”
Roxette / EMI ‘Travelling’ Press Release, March 2012
A year after ‘Charm School‘ confirmed that Roxette really were back, they were already moving on.
‘It’s Possible‘ arrived in March 2012 as the first single from ‘Travelling‘, Roxette’s ninth studio album and something of a modern companion to 1992’s ‘Tourism‘. With the World Tour now in full swing, Roxette were once again recording wherever the road took them, in studios, at soundchecks and during concerts.
Per’s T&A Demo was recorded on July 26, 2011, before the song developed into not one, but two finished Roxette recordings!
Version One, chosen as the lead single, is the harder of the pair, packed with processed vocals, guitars and electronics.
Version Two, also included on ‘Travelling‘, takes a lighter route with acoustic guitars, live drums and a wonderfully summery ’60s flavour.
The single was released digitally on March 2, 2012, followed by the physical CD on March 16, with Per’s original T&A Demo as the b-side. ‘Travelling‘ followed later that month. TDR’s contemporary coverage described Version One as the album’s first “taster”, while Per characterised the alternative arrangement as the song’s summer version.
A colourful new video followed, directed by David Nord and Boris Nawratil, with additional CGI from Jonas Dahlbäck. Built partly around Per and Marie’s ‘Travelling‘ photo sessions, it leaned heavily into the album’s planes, movement and life-on-the-road concept.
Commercially, ‘It’s Possible‘ had a rather mixed journey. It reached #64 in Germany, but performed considerably better on UK radio, where BBC Radio 2 made it their Record of the Week and later added it to the station’s A-list. It also climbed to #33 on the UK Radio Airplay Chart.
The song became part of the World Tour too, with the performance from Santiago on May 5, 2012 later receiving an official release on ‘Travelling The World‘. Great to hear it live!
It’s short, uncomplicated and ridiculously sunny, exactly the sort of effortless Gessle pop song that sounds particularly good with the windows down.
And having two completely different Roxette versions makes it even more fun.
