4 SNABBA Per Gessle / 5-miljonerskompositör
Per Gessle är aktuell med en Cd-box och två böcker, men han har även hyllats av BMI vid en gala i London för att ha skrivit låtar som spelats mer än fem miljoner gånger på amerikansk radio. Även Roxette-kollegan Magnus ”MP” Persson belönades – men det är med Per som MI gjort en 4 SNABBA dagarna innan Roxette ger sig ut på ännu en världsresa.
Vad hände under galakvällen på The Dorchester i London?
- Det var en lättsam och effektiv tillställning med sedvanlig red carpet-promenad och snabba TV-intervjuer där ämnena hoppar mellan Maries hjärntumör och Miley Cyrus tunga. Årets låt blev Daft Punks Get Lucky och det var väldigt välförtjänt. Kul att Nile Rodgers var på plats att ta emot priset, han är en härlig och pratsam man. Van Morrison hade sina svarta glas på sej hela kvällen och såg seriöst uttråkad ut, Ray Davies fanns också där liksom Graham Lyle (kommer ni ihåg Gallagher & Lyle?). Han fick pris för att ha varit med och skrivit Tina Turners What’s Love Got To Do With It. Årets ”Ikon-pris” gick till Sir Tim Rice som höll ett härligt svängigt tal. Det var kvällens verbala höjdpunkt strax efter tjejen som presenterade sej för mej som -”Jag är dotter till Gilbert O’Sullivan”. Svårslaget.
- MP, i nyinköpt fluga från Zara, och jag svansade upp till scenen mellan borden för att ta emot vårt pris för Listen To Your Heart och jag stannade kvar en stund för att få mitt eget diplom för It Must Have Been Love. Det är mäktiga utmärkelser. 5 miljoner spelningar motsvarar nästan 40 års oavbruten speltid! Och de flesta andra låtar som nått 5 miljoner och över är mycket äldre än våra och har således haft längre tid på sej att nå sina nivåer. En bra kväll för egot.
Vilken är din favorit bland andra kompositörers ”5-miljonerslåtar”?
- Oj, det är fantastiska låtar allihopa. Jag är ju uppväxt till Frees All Right Now, Pink Floyds Another Brick In The Wall, Spencer Davis Groups Gimme Some Lovin’ och Eltons Bennie & The Jets. Alla finns fortfarande kvar i min vinylsamling. Vi är i synnerligen gott sällskap.
Det har kommit två böcker + en Cd-box på kort tid. Berätta lite om dem och hur kändes det på Bokmässan i Göteborg?
- Som alltid när jag/vi gör officiella nedstamp i verkligheten så dyker The International Hardcore Fans upp! Det är alltid trevligt, de är verkligen underbara supportrar från hela världen som ställer upp i vått och torrt. Så bokmässan blev en synnerligen glad tillställning för min del. Mycket folk och god stämning.
- Bägge böckerna består av mina texter, ofta i originalform, mina studio dagböcker inkl teckningar och klotter samt mina kommentarer kring låtarna, hur och var och varför de skrevs. Ena boken är mitt svenska material, den andra är allt det engelska.
- CD-boxen består i princip av 186 demos som ligger till grund för allt jag har gjort de senaste 35 åren. Demos till Roxette, Gyllene Tider, mina Mazarin och En händig man-album plus en massa outgivna sånger som aldrig kommit ut av olika anledningar.
Vad blir det för turné denna gång och kan vi förvänta oss nytt Roxettealbum snart?
- Roxette har varit i studion och avslutat ett gäng singlar som kommer att släppas nästa år. Vi siktar också på att få ihop ett helt nytt album under 2015 men just nu koncentrerar vi oss på XXX-The 30th Anniversary Tour som börjar 28 oktober i Vladivostok. Den slutar, som det ser ut nu, sommaren 2016. Jag tror att mitt pass går ut då.
