‘Big Black Cadillac‘ is one of those wonderfully peculiar Roxette songs that seems specifically designed to divide the room. You either embrace the dirty synths, ridiculous energy and “bubble gum in my hair” craziness… or you reach very quickly for the skip button.

TDR was certainly divided when ‘Charm School‘ arrived in 2011. Some loved its catchy chorus and heard echoes of ‘The World According To Gessle‘, some celebrated the return of Roxette’s crazier side, while others declared that it didn’t fit the album at all.

Paul perhaps summed it up best: “love it or hate it“. I love it!

Per’s T&A Demo was recorded on July 2, 2010, with the finished Roxette version becoming track eight on ‘Charm School‘. And while the verses largely belong to Per, it’s Marie crashing into that gloriously repetitive chorus that really gives the song its character.

Is it sophisticated? Not particularly. Is it subtle? Absolutely not!

Would it have made a completely bonkers single from ‘Charm School‘, preferably accompanied by an equally ridiculous video featuring an enormous black Cadillac? Absolutely. It always screamed movie soundtrack to me?

Turn it up loud. It works. And with that, we’ll soon be packing our bags and moving on to ‘Travelling‘…but there’s two more ‘charming‘ stops.
