There’s “Parkliv” from 1981, “Återtåget live” from 1996, “GT25 Live” from 2004, no album from 2013, and now this. So what can be said about “GT40 Live!”? A lot actually. The album is amazing. MP Persson is in charge of the mixing and this is how Gyllene Tider live should sound like! Easily the best live album of the four. “Återtåget” comes in as the runner up.
We get to hear a band that’s on their absolute top form. They have fun, they are charged, they are in charge. I have listened to the digital version containing all 28 songs, and from my notes I think this is all the songs they performed this summer? The bulk of the songs have been recorded at Ullevi, Gothenburg. I’m pretty sure some of the other concerts sounded better, but I can certainly understand why you’d want that particular concert released, it was always Gyllene’s prefered arena.
MP has made the album sound heavy and crisp at the same time, and for the first time I can hear the girls! (Dea and Malin-My). They make the songs stand out even more, especially “Det är över nu.” Being at the concerts I couldn’t hear them at all. Too busy or weirdly mixed? No idea. I love this release, the only thing I’m not too fond of is the fiddle in “Chrissie,” it wasn’t necessary to go Nashville on that. Or any Gyllene song for that matter. Kai disagrees here, go figure!

The CD contains 20 tracks, the vinyl 21 and the digital 28. There are a few differences between the CD, LP and the digital versions. Obviously the digital version is the longest, but “Flickorna på TV2” isn’t on the LP. Also funny how the version of “Vill ha ett svar!’ is from the soundcheck and not the concert itself. One last thought… the sleeve…?
