SOME INFO ON HEIKKI L feat PER GESSLE'S YOU DON'T WANT LOVE-SINGLE:
One of Finland’s house music lynchpins aims for giddy new heights with his huge new single You Don’t Want Love, featuring the vocals of legendary Swedish pop act Roxette’s Per Gessle.
Finnish stalwart Heikki L has been DJing and producing for over 20 years now. He has helped build up his homeland’s burgeoning dance music scene in that time with his own club nights, festivals, conferences and residencies, flying the flag internationally as a producer with a slew of big dancefloor cuts on big labels like Nervous, Cr2, Spinnin’ and Sneakerz. With the likes of Axwell, David Guetta, Tiësto and Sander Van Doorn having shown their support for his previous productions and his previous hit City Of Sin featuring Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden on vocals, it’s perhaps no surprise that this new single fully embraces the stadium-sized EDM crossover sound that has characterised the last few years in big league electronic music. With one eye on the charts and the other on the dancefloor, it makes for a potent blend.
“As you might know I’m a sucker for good songs and when I got the ‘You Don’t Want Love’ demo and the request if I was interested in singing it I simply couldn’t resist!” says Per of how he became involved in the project. “I love the melody lines and I think the whole vibe is irresistible. For me, this is modern pop music with a nice classic touch. Something I’m very proud to be part of”.
His mellifluous delivery launches the track into life over gentle guitar strums, the beat gradually gathering weight as honeyed melodies join the mix and usher us towards a huge piano-driven chorus. With a lightness of touch in the verses and a powerful intensity in the anthemic chorus, it’s built to work as well on the airwaves as it is on the ‘floors. Crisp and punchy production abounds, with thumping low end balanced with fizzing highs. You won’t hear many dance tracks this year featuring a vocalist who has sold over 75 million records, and the quality and experience encapsulated in his vocals and songwriting really sets You Don’t Want Love aside from the dance-pop pack.
“Roxette is one of the most iconic bands and I am very excited to be able to work with one of the most distinctive voices of our time” says Heikki L. And so he should be; he’s got a sure-fire summer anthem on his hands.
