Expressen refuses to pay damages

STOCKHOLM - Peter Danowsky, legal counselor for the Swedish tabloid newspaper Expressen, has now replied to Marie Fredriksson’s claim against the paper.
The tabloid, writes the counselor, has not written that Marie is a criminal, or blameworthy. “Nor defamed, abusively treated or [subjected her to] any other outrageous treatment.”
“Expressen doesn’t seem to have read my summons especially carefully,” Leif Silbersky, Marie’s lawyer, says to the competing newspaper Aftonbladet. “The grounds for my demands are that persons in Marie’s vicinity experienced Marie as untruthful,” Silbersky continues. “Marie got scared as well, and thought the doctors were deceiving her, while at the same time giving the truth to the media.”
Silbersky also points out that Sjöberg [Expressen’s Editor-in-Chief] at first claimed that Expressen’s information was correct, and then suddenly turned around and admitted that it was wrong publishing it.

They have to pay damages to Marie and pay for a psycotherapy to this editor in chief of this stupid tabloid. He’s not a normal person. I really feel nausea about this man. He’s so stupid....

Actually it’s funny cause it’s a new wave going through stars to sue tabloids and I guess they should. I have so many nonsense stories on Enquirer or other cheap magazines about Oprah, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and etc. Penelope Cruz is now suing a magazine in Australia and so are many other stars in different parts of the world.
Why would a journalist write bullshit?

I just heard that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have won their court case with a tabloid.

The interesting thing is:
Expressen’s back-peddling as FAST as they can. They KNOW they are in the wrong. They just don’t want to admit it publically because that would open the door for other lawsuits. Where the admitted that they were wrong in publishing, they feel they shouldn’t have to pay.
Someone needs to point out that people like Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and others have won against tabloids here in the US. And the settlements THEY ask for are LARGER than what Ms. Fredriksson’s asked for. They should count themselves fortunate.
I know this rambled a bit. Sorry. Point being: Settle, before it costs MORE money than you’ve got.
