20 year old song enters chart in Australia

Written by tevensso on August 11, 2008 to and . Source: ARIA.com.au.

For reasons yet unknown Roxette's US #2 single from 1989, "Dangerous,"  has entered the Australian download chart at #30. "The Oz people are famous for their exquisite taste. Marie and myself are very happy indeed" comments Per to The Daily Roxette.

Good news! Maybe the UK fans can get together and try and get Rox on the charts in the UK??? Pick a song and mass-download it on a certain day

:)
It would be nice if suddenly Dangerous becomes a hit everywhere again!
:)

Has anyone confirmed it? Eventhough you might say I am a wet blanket, don’t you think it is a typo and instead of Roxette - Dangerous, it actually means Kardinal Offishall ft. Akon - Dangerous or something like that? ;-)

How odd ! i think its a great song, but very dated. I would of picked a newer song to re enter charts if i had a choice.

Well, it’s a curious new, but it’s a nice one too.

Yeah!! “dangerous” is a success forever, knows no age!
i hope roxette comeback soon!!

Is that really true?? Hmm...strange. But, GREAT ;-)

Roxette Rocks!!!

I have the same doubt as RoXoR

By the way, the relevant in here is that Per still has Marie’s telephone number :)

Strange but great news, indeed.

Though Roxette obviously is no longer vivid they still rock around the globe :)

We certainley have not forgotten Roxette down here in Australia, although it surprises me, quite often we get airplay on the radio stations, and on the Music Max channel, usually the most popular songs they had like, The Look, It Must Have Been Love, etc.

im from australia too and im really happy with the news, but im also not sure if it is a mistake or not.

also who says per phoned marie? maybe they got the news after they stepped out of the booth laying down a vocal track for a song of a new album????

hahaha it sure good to dream

Surely ARIA couldn’t make a typo mistake? But I haven’t seen anything that could of caused that myself. To enter a chart these days, is it like the old selling chart where it appears a couple of weeks after selling? Or is the download top 40 an up to date chart? Could of played the song on the Olympics of something :P

@konstpaus: Ha ha, I like you point of view.

i thought the same, people could have heard it on the Olympic broadcast and then a crapload of people could have downloaded it.

At this stage there is nothing to give any indication why it has happend.

Pretty slim chance of a typo, but you never know.

Hi again,

I am not sure if I am allowed to post links here, but on this webpage: http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=23080
they also say it is a mistake and as you can see it is not the first time.
Of course it would be fun if Roxette really entered the charts but being realistic (not pesimistic :-p ) it sounds too odd to be real :)

This is a little off topic RoXoR but that is a great website you have linked to as it includes week by week chart history since way back (at least 1989). I’ve been looking for such a site for a long time. Thank you

Why wouldn’t you be allowed to post links?
They are discussing a possible error, but no one says it is an error. And the previous “errors” are regarding charting two versions of the same song separately. Another theory they have is that the current hits with the same names as the older hits have stirred an interest in the older material.

Ben Harper - Forever -> Chris Brown - Forever
Muse - Take a Bow -> Rihanna - Take a Bow
Count Basic - See You Again -> Miley Cyrus - See You Again
Future Troubles - Shake It -> Metro Station - Shake It
Roxette - Dangerous -> Kardinal Offishall - Dangerous

I think it maybe the actual buying public downloading these simalar titled tracks out of pure curosity. Take Katy Perry’s track, when i first heard the name i immeadiatly assumed it would’ve been a cover of Jill Sobul’s from ’95.
I would think A.R.I.A could not make such notable errors of this magnitude. but weirder things have happened.

Sure, this may still be an error, but no one says, and no one knows.

You are welcome brentnewtown, to help people by accident is one of my biggest strength ;-)

Yep, Mr Tevensso you are right, they don’t say that it is actually a mistake, I just wanted to stress the fact that other people talking about this miracle :) But with Roxette you never know...

Oh, an I thought in some forums it is not allowed to post links, isn’t it!?

Maybe someone can check the iTune chart (I think you need to have iTunes installed to do this and I don’t) to see if it is charting there. Aria digital chart uses various sources including iTunes and Bigpond. I’ve checked Bigpond and it is not listed in the top 40 tracks.

WoW!
“Just a little bit dangerous...”

iTunes only lists Kardinal Offishall in the top 40

The chart is compiled from such sites as, Apple’s iTunes, BigPond Music, Destra Music, ninemsn Music and Soundbuzz, as well as key retailers such as Ripit, Leading Edge and JB HiFi.

Don’t be silly - it wouldn’t work at all. Partly because the charts are so manipulated by the record companies anyway that any genuine effort on a fans part would be useless and chances are, if it was noticed by chart compilers that the results are being distorted beyond truth by the public, then it will probably be discounted from the chart all together. By truth, in case you’re wondering, I mean that what you’re suggesting is fraudulent. If it were an election, it would be vote rigging.

I think it’s a typo. The whole thing smells a bit fishy to me.

What’s with expressen and all this sudden interest in Roxette/Marie? And the complete opposite with Aftonbladet they haven’t mention Där Du Andas single yet!?

With enough purchases pwbounce’s plan would work in the UK.

The Chris Moyels radio show recently got listeners to buy “Honey to the Bee” by Billie Piper and they got it to No17 in the UK singles chart.
