I stumbled on this cool little bit about why Opeth included a cover of “Den Ständiga Resan” on their new album. Excerpted from a longer interview:

Tangra Mega Rock: The other interesting thing is that basically there’s a kind of a bonus part of the CD with two or three cover versions, I believe. So it was an ALICE IN CHAINS track and then it was this Swedish ROXETTE girl, I believe…

Mikael: Yes, that’s right.

Tangra Mega Rock: You chose this song for patriotism reasons or why?

Mikael: No, no, not at all, I just love the song. It’s a bit of fun gimmick to do Swedish songs of course, but I love this song for a good 15 years when I first heard it and I always wanted to record it, but it takes a lot of confidence, I think, for me to especially sing a song like that which was sung by a woman and second, to sing a song in Swedish, because it’s a bit awkward, if you know what I mean. I’ve never really done that before. But I love the song. It’s a simple type sing-a-songwriter’s song — just acoustic guitar and vocals. I think it has a classic quality, almost like “Working Class Hero”

Great to hear someone compare Marie’s songwriting to John Lennon’s!
