*Comment Withheld For Administrator Approval*

Hi!

I would like to have one of the moderators/administrators tell me what is the issue with this:

“Your comment has been queued for moderation by site administrators and will be published after approval.”

That message showed up right after i pressed the post buttom, of course to post a comment in one of the active threads. This is something i never saw before in TDR. Therefore, I just think it’s fair and polite to make users aware of this new “tool”, if you will or if this is an error of some sort.

However, if it’s not an error, and since i do not engage in flaming and any other kind of derogatory interaction or conversation of any kind with other members of TDR, i do believe this new tool to be a censorship one, which highly upsets me and makes me dislike it vehemently as now, the messages i post will be checked and analysed for appropriateness. I come to think of this as a sad day for TDR, if indeed, this is to be used in a widespread manner withing TDR.

I would like the moderators’/administrators’ attention brought forth onto this issue, as I assume i have the right to know what it is about and it’s purpose since i have been a member of this community for a long time now.

Thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Carlos E., New York.

It’s the automatic spam protection, it’s not 100%, so you have to bear with it. Nothing personal. :) It’s self learning though.

Has there been that much spam posting that something like that is required?

Thanks for your reply Tev. I really appreciate it.

However, there was no spam in my message. I’m not a spammer and i have no reason to start spamming in TDR. It’s just really strange to have the message be amalysed for legality. What if i have something in future posts that are not spam and this tool blocks the message? You know, this tool has an “artificial” intelligence. That what it is, artificial. That’s why it held up my message when there was no spam at all in it. It’s just a strange feeling.

Take care!

This is really not cool.

I guess this “artificial” intelligence is not learning well. Still getting messages held up. Could the one in charge of this tool, please make this program let my messages go through without this check? I don’t spam. I’m not a spammer. So, there’s no reason to worry about me.
I’d highly appreciate it. Please.

Take care!

Just FYI mine went through fine.

Yes, after the switch to the new software we get a LOT of spam, or used to before this new guard. I can only guess why your messages get caught, and that’s probably something to do with your ISP or similar. We can only again apologize, but it is necessary unless you want every other message be about sex or viagra. I’ll check with Visa to see if there’s a whitelist we can add you to.

I haven’t had any problems posting mine?

pwbbounce –don’t worry –soon you will have probs..

It happends from time to time and you can be never sure if you post will get through or not..

it’s block links to hostels or other useful info that is share here about Per concerts..

sorry –but talking about Per concerts is the only spam you can get from me or Carlos.

It was really irritating to not know why i can’t post all these messages.

Thanks a lot Tev. I really do hope there can be a whitelist. Having all my messages held up for hours is not really cool at all.

All my messages a getting held up, and not only for one minute but for a long time. The messages you see about posted by me, 3 of them, i just finally show them posted this morning (April 25th) when i actually posted them on April 24th around in the evening.

TEST: This message has been posted at 11:30 AM US EST on April 25th.

Let’s see when this one will get cleared by secret service!

Yes, they are manually released by us. So it takes whatever time it takes.

Roxrider, calm down ;)

It surely has to do with your ISP, the only thing we can do is that Visa adds you to the “white list” - he will read this and solve it asap :)

I’m sorry, but there’s no such thing as white list. The system uses a service called Akismet to check if the message is spam or not. The popular blogging platform WordPress and many other sites use the same mechanism. For some reason it seems to catch quite many of the messages here on The Daily Roxette. But as Thomas said, it’s a system that can learn, so as we teach it which messages are spam and which are not, it should get better and not catch false positives anymore.

I always knew there was something dodgy about you, Roxrider_USA! ;) Visa, on the flip side is there such a thing as a comment generator? Would be rather handy at work!

might be that Roxrider uses some hidden language messages?? :-D
HOpeyfully the system learns fast enough ;)

PS : might it have to do with the name? _USA??

Simple test: I’m posting the text Roxrider had said. And if I do not get blocked, then it must be his provider that is suspicious. Feel free to delete this post afterwards. :-)

I did a quick test here. I quoted one of RR’s messages, and although I live in another country (which also means I use a different provider), my post got queued.
Ok. So, the secret must be in the texts RR posts. Most probably in the signature. Maybe you try to change one or two words there?

Another test, just quoting RR’s signature. If it goes through, then the bug must be somewhere else. Moderators, feel free to remove this message if you want.

Both of Kai’s posts were withheld.

So, i guess it’s possible to teach the program that my signature is not spam since it learns what is spam and what’s not.

It would not be really amusing for me to have to change my signature to please the program. Afterall, the signature is a TDR feature.

Not impressed if this is going to be a “permanent” thing.

it’s not becouse users , it’s not becouse signature ..
It just happend random ..
it may see “pop in hostel” as threat ,but why “kalmar hostel” is a threat ?
sorry but it’s a problem if my first post appears few hours after second one when i’m trying to inform several people and need their fast decision..

Do you see why certain message is hold up?
for example–it doesn’t see Halmstad hostel as treat–so how it works and what kind of words or phrase we must try not to use?

I know what you mean.

I also don’t like my messages being held up so long. And much less if i have to change a perfectly clean message with no spam, just to make the program happy.

Take care!

I have no idea what not to use, but it definitely isn’t random. For instance, Carlos’ signature: if we use every word or sentence in his sig separately, it goes thru, but if you use all of it the post gets blocked, so I can only assume it’s the combination of “” and other things. There is really nothing we can do about it as the only other option is to let the 174 posts of sex and viagra pop up on the site. Yes, we got 174 spam posts yesterday, from one user.

definetely it’s better to have to publish the few messages that are tagged as spam when they aren’t than the other way around, none of us has the time to waste hidding 174 spam messages per day, but I’m sure there is no need for me to explain and you understand this.. or? ;-)

If there’s a member or members spamming on TDR, how come the account(s), are not terminated?

The spam that the member(s) bring are not allowed, however the member(s) that bring the spam are allowed to stay? And as a result, TDR’s administrators and moderators have to worry about checking for how clean the messages are, not to mention the hassle it causes to those members that have their messages held up.

Isn’t it easy to just terminate the accounts of the members who really spam on TDR? Or just block the IP address of those who use TDR to spam. It’s way more practical. Or am i missing something or not understanding something?

Maybe those resposnsible for TDR should consider that. In my view, terminating the accounts of members that really spam or block their IP address so they can’t get into site, won’t hassle or annoy those members that don’t even think about spamming and those responsible for the site won’t have to keep getting e-mail alerts telling them to keep checking messages to see how clean they are and then let them go through whatever number of hours later.

By the way, glad to have a nice healthy discussion concerning this issue. Thanks. :-)

Take care!
