Australia will get some releases, no single
Written by ditroia on September 4, 2006 to Releases.
ADELAIDE - It looks like the good news just keeps on coming. EMI Australia has confirmed releases of the album(s) and The RoxBox. Australia won’t get the new single, “One Wish,” though.
While the “deluxe” CD (including a DVD) and the box will be imported, the regular CD will be made in Australia. All releases are scheduled for mid-October, EMI Australia reports to TDR.

Well that is good news.
Better then what I was expecting, I wasn’t sure if we were going to get any releases in Australia.
I know a lot of fans are disappointed and I’m probably going to get flamed for saying this, but I can’t help myself........I’m going to buy the lot.
The single, both versions of the greatest hits and the Rox Box.
I was in JB HIFI at lunch time in the city (Adelaide) and was looking at all the box sets of all the other artists and finally Roxette will have a box set soon on the shelf.
Does anyone know how much the cost of these collections will be when released in Australia?
I will get the CD Single probably over Ebay.

Well as an eBay seller, I’ll get some extra UK copies to list on eBay! :)

Thanks for the news Dave.
It worries me a little that the the greatest hits and box will be released but not the single. While of course it was quite possible that the single would have been a flop, what other promotion can the greatest hits and box expect?
Still, I am very surprised and happy that Australia will get these other items.

mmm no single to promote the album ? how will the album do with without it then ?

I thought the same when I first read it but it means single CD (greatest hits) opposed to CD single (One Wish).

Excellent news, except for no single. Hopefully it makes it REALLY big in Europe and they do end up releasing it locally.
Quite surprised to hear that they will make the single CD here instead of importing the lot.
Lets just hope that the date doesn’t get pushed back as has happend in the past.

yep, the single is going to have to be huge elsewhere to get a release here. Maybe EMi Aus heard it and said no :P

Gee I wish EMI Australia would make up their %^&**(&$ minds. As I phoned EMI Australia today (4 Sept) and they told me that there is nothing on their data base about any new releases from Roxette and they highly doubt it will be released in Australia.

Yes another South Aussie here in Adelaide. When it comes to releases - I believe it when I see it, there is always conflicting info. I really would like the single to be released here. Looks like another import for the collection.

Another Aussie here this one from Sydney :)
Shock horror EMI giving conflicting stories re: a Roxette release. They don’t know what’s going on from one department to the next over there!!!
My feeling is that it will get a release date then be postponed then get a new release date then postponed again that will go on for a bit before they scrap the whole release all together ;)
I just can’t trust EMI to come up with the goods, so I will most likely order on line.

”...double-CD...”? what does it mean? i thought that GH will be only 1CD...
egglattli said on September 4, 2006 14:01:
It comes with a DVD of all the videos ever made by Rox... Not One Wish of course
ditroia said on September 4, 2006 14:11:
I trust my source, I don’t know what the person on the phone was going on about. I’ll try and find out why the single’s not being released.

i just think with no single that would be a promotion for the album, they is no point releasing album there ? its like when they released RS in UK with not lead single ? made no sence.

Even though they might not choose to release the single as a retail item... does that preclude them from releasing it in promo version only for radio airplay? EAR (Edel USA) only released “Wish I Could Fly” for radio when their version of “Don’t Bore Us...” was relesed in the U.S.
veneziano said on September 4, 2006 15:26:
I‘m pretty sure that there will be radio-only releases of OW anywhere the compilations see a release without a single release.
In many small-market places it‘s quite common to release new singles only to the radio and TV stations, in Italy for example local artists release up to 5 singles from one album, with video and everything, but only the first (or maybe even the second) are released to the public.
ncurran said on September 4, 2006 16:13:
Releasing a GH without a lead single is a bit different than releasing a studio album without a single. The way EMI UK handled the Room Service release was total madness...if you want to sell a new bunch of tracks, then of course you have to promote it with a single. However, there are already (up to) 18 singles that the public might know on this release, so a lead single is not vital, though it might still be desirable for awareness of the release.
It must be said though that when EMI territories release the compilation without the new single then it reinforces many people’s opinion of Roxette as a ’has been’ band, where it would have been great if people could here a NEW roxette song on radio, then people might realise that they didn’t actually split up some time between 1992 and 1999 (depending on where you live)
rox-kuryliw said on September 4, 2006 16:14:
i think some radio stations would pick it up. They need to do something to get the album noticed even a little. single or radio only promo is good. End of day its in the hands of the record company.
nate said on September 4, 2006 17:37:
yay for Australia,
agree with Rob S perhaps if the single is sucessful, it may still be released.

I’m from Adelaide. Looking forward to more new Roxette material.
Shame about the single not being avail. here.

Another Aussie here in the Hunter Valley of NSW.
Fingers crossed re Aussie release - Ill just have to control myself and wait and see what happens and hopefully the RoxBox wont be too expensive as I only want it for the DVDs and a handful of songs, but it will still be great to go instore and see NEW Roxette stuff on the shelves.
shannyn77 said on September 5, 2006 01:08:
True - I went to JB hifi in Erina and Tuggerah and there is nothing Rox at all - so it will be exciting 2 finally see something!! :)
Hotblooded said on September 5, 2006 02:08:
All the JB’s I know always have some Roxette CD’s :)
Well I hope David is right and they do release it in October. Would be nice for them to release the single to radio, I couldn’t imagine hearing a NEW roxette song on the radio though. It would be nice for the Australian public to know that Roxette are still around and that they didn’t split up 11-12 years ago!!!
