Capitol Sweden releases low price CDs

Written by tevensso on January 3, 2004 to .

STOCKHOLM - Capitol Records Sweden will release a new low price series of CDs, presumably to fight piracy. Among these CDs are Per Gessle’s “The World According to Gessle” (1997) and Marie Fredriksson’s “Efter stormen” (1987). The price of the CDs will be 65 Swedish kronor ($9), and they are packed in cardboard sleeves.

and what´s the reason for cd-pirates? Too high prices of original albums. Admit, Capitol.

I think this would do well in Spain where you can buy pirate CDs (with a crappy printed cover + inside a plastic cd-bag) for about 3-5€ - depends on the city, seller etc ;) So actually why not pay about 7€ for a CD in a carboard - at least it’s original, sound will always be better..

Here in Argentina the record companies have been releasing these cd’s for some months. The point is: Does the plastic case cost 100 Kr?

Hmm, cardboard sleeves. Think of the C!B!B! CD singles. Cheaper to make, hence the price reduction.

Hello everybody,

I first wish you an happy “roxettely gessle-ish fredriksonnely” new year 2004.

this is a nice idea but it would be better if it was for the new albums ... You may dream isn’t it ?

I wish also it could be an opportunity to diffuse worldwide some albums (in Europe among others) which are not available - I mean for example the swedish ones !!!

have a nice first week in 2004.

It’s not that cheap...

Ginza charges 79 SEK for the normal edition of Efter stormen (or at least they did, it’s sold out now)

Midprice-cd’s are what, 89 SEK in normal cd-stores? And I gotta say I’d rather pay 89 and get a cover which I can actually find in my cdcabinet, than 65 for a papersleeve

In Swedish:
Ted: Dom är redan släppta. Såg dem på ica idag. Ser ut som cd-singlar alltihop... fast det inte är det dårå.

In english:
Ted: They have already been released. I saw them today at Ica. They all look like cd-singles, even though they are not...
