Hey mambo! Next stop: Italy!
Can you believe that Roxette have not performed live in Italy in nearly 26 years?
In fact, Roxette’s first and only “live” Italian concert was all the way back on the 23rd of November 1989 at the Rolling Stone club in Milan as part of the Look Sharp! European Tour!
Incredible to comprehend that despite the mega success during the nineties, Roxette did not have any concerts in Italy, even during their more recent 2011/12 Charm School Tour. Much like the New Zealand show in February this year broke a long drought, the European leg of the tour kicks off in similar fashion, with a long overdue visit to an overlooked market.
But of course, Roxette weren’t completely void from the Italian consciousness for all these years, the band did do the occasional Italian TV playback appearance, most recently in 2001 promoting “The Centre of The Heart” and they even performed on stage at 1994’s Festivalbar, but again, they performed “Sleeping In My Car” in playback mode.
The venue for the Roxette Italian return? The beautiful Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan (featured left). This intimate, seated performance space can host up to 2,300 people and will kick off Roxette’s 2015 XXX European Leg on the 10th of May, 2015.
So what to expect from the upcoming shows? Well firstly, here’s a re-cap of the combined songs played thus far from the 2014 Russian/Baltic Leg and the 2015 Australian/NZ leg of the tour.

The next obvious question is “will they play any new material?” With a new single coming and an album out at the end of the year, what better way to celebrate the new project than showcasing some of the new sounds live on stage? History suggests that the new single will make an appearance, if not in Italy, then somewhere down the road much like “It’s Possible” did briefly during the 2012 Tour.
Also, Marie Fredriksson will more than likely resume her place in the chair allowing her to feel more comfortable on stage so she can now focus on smashing out those big notes… that moment in “Listen To Your Heart” is pretty special by anyone’s standards.
The smart looking stage design will return. Pelle’s beard will probably be back and the daunting and elusive quest to confirm Magnus’ favorite Roxette album will hopefully be answered as the band re-boots to conquer Europe once again.
So to re-cap: A new single coming? Check! The next phase of the XXX Tour? Check! A new album coming soon? Check! It seems there’s no stopping this steamrolling Roxette juggernaut anytime soon!
