Good Reporter in Paris

PARIS – Roxette back in France 23 years later. In 1992, I was 12. Definitely too young to drive a car and go to see Roxette live at Le Zénith (I live in south of France, in Marseilles) for the join the joyride summer tour.

Unfortunately, it was (until Wednesday) their last concert in France. Fortunately I didn’t have to wait 23 years to see Roxette live. I could see them in Brussels during the Room Service Tour. Then I drove to Antwerp to see them for the Night of Proms and finally in Barcelona in 2011. I went to London during the Per’s solo tour. It wasn’t Roxette but it almost the same when your home country doesn’t even know that Roxette is still alive (and kickin’ ass !) and when you say to your friends that Roxette is your long time favorite band and they answer you “Rox… what ?” So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when this concert was announced. I was thrilled and nervous at the same time. How many people will be there? Will the concert be cancelled because of the lack of tickets sales ? How the crowd will react regarding Marie ? All those questions had the most magnificent answer at L’Olympia. The place (beautiful, trust me…) was full of people dancing, singing and jumping around. Okay, there were some international fans. But French people were there even if there was no promotion at all in the French medias.

This show was really special to me. It’s good to see your favorite band playing in such atmosphere. The place is not too big, you don’t need to have a big screen on each side to see the artists and there is enough people at the party. In the beginning of the show I was afraid too because of Marie. She sounded a bit low so I thought she had cold on the previous show. In fact, I think it was because of the size of the place and the singing of the fans. It was a really beautiful show and I hope I won’t wait 23 years to see them again in France. My only regret was that this time they didn’t play “Almost Unreal,” my favorite song. Next time maybe ?
