Sometimes changes are needed and I am sure you have a reason for doing it this way now but I already miss the 'old' layout which was much more easier to overview, in my opinion. Well, I am sure I will get used to it soon...

Well I believe in being honest so this might not go down to well, but I simply don’t like it. I am already finding it hard to get around and the white background makes it hard to read stuff. Like Sandyam said it just might take time to adjust to it although another forum I use changed recently and I adjusted to that right away… It’s feels really cold at the moment, like the warmth has been sucked out of TDR!

The main reason for the change was that I built the old system back in 1999. I didn't have enough time to fix the bugs and add missing features (mostly in the admin side), let alone keep the layout up-to-date. With a system built and maintained by someone else, like this Drupal, it's easier to add new functionalities because you don't have to worry about the framework.

Hmm, forum is maybe better, but the frontpage isn't. White colour is too official and boring, like some company's intranet. Left side of the page looks really bad.

Sorry but before this change everything was perfect, forum was well-arranged, perfect graphics, information about users, for example how many posts they have etc. Now it´s a really boring and cold...

It loooks MUCH better. The old site looked very dated. This is much more slick and modern. I wouldve liked the addition of smilies to the forum but no big deal. Its looking great, well done!

hmmmm, i dunno... it could take a while to get used to this. The layout of the old version was much easier to read, and as some people have said it seems a little "cold". Maybe a few tweaks here and there would help. Can't say what thought... yet But as with anything new, in time you learn to live with it!.

Oh I sure hate it, but then I tend to be resistent to change in most cases. Of course I'll get used to it eventually, but i guess you don't realise just how easy to use and well-constructed the old site was until it disapears.

Congrats guys! I think you did the right move going with a system like Drupal, instead of "cooking" your own. To me, a proper search was the most important feature missing in the old TDR. So, thanks for the new search engine :) A regards the layout... I think everyone will miss the orange, it was with us for so long, and it was like a kind of "trademark" of TDR. Something REALLY different to any other community site. But it's good to change, and I'm sure is a matter of time to get used to it. I do agree with people that says that the new layout is not as easy to read, though. I don't know exactly why... but I also feel the same. And readability counts! Maybe the new layout/CSS needs some love in that department. But it's not a big deal, either.

We of course already expected some people not to like the new layout, we even made bets! (btw, Tev, you owe me one ;)) This is just natural, many people don't like changes, and this change is quite drastic, specially taking into account the old design has been around for many years.. people got used to it..It was the same when we switched from the green-gray layout to the orange layout, most got used to it, as most will get used to this new design as well. Drupal will make our lives easier too as admins/mods, and specially Visa's. My two cents worth... It appears that the improvements (if any) are mainly intended for the TDR staff, which no doubt make it easier to administer the site. I see very little improvement or new features for the readers. Old TDR was a warm, inviting Roxette corner of the Internet. New TDR is a barrenness white expense, which has lost it's soul. Visa, I'm a fan of your work, always have been, but I don't like this - sorry.

I don't really like it, only because I'm not used to it yet :) The white is blinding me abit though. How about the screen width? Seems it's set up for fancy widescreen monitors only. The page is scrolling off the screen by 25% sideways for a standard monitor. Can you set it up so it detects you screen resolution and adjusts accordingly, like yahoo.

Interesting use of Drupal, I'm using its core to deploy a global KM solution for my employer. I've always found some of the more user friendly forum based solutions more appropriate for fan sites, such as Fusion or SMS. Drupal's forum is notoriously inflexible and really requires integration of another product to make is a friendly and feature rich piece of dynamic content which will encourage users to visit regularly. That said, Drupal is *extremely* powerful, and can do things which even some of the large vendors are not doing yet (hence my convincing my company to go open source and save a few hundred thousand pounds). Perhaps you can look at some of the warmer themes for Drupal and see how you can use that here? It does seem very clinical and not terribly friendly. Even though I *know* what can be done with Drupal sites, my first impression here was one of sterility and coldness. Drop me a line if you need a hand with anything, happy to help if I can.

I think I understand the reason for some changes. I've had a look (sharp) and it seems people can't see the e-mail and then they can't send archives to them. It is my first message so I don't know if we can edit or not, but this can persuade people to share what they shouldn't (??) and then change what they say in the message. Is it possible to add the "jump to page" shortcut to the top of the page? On long threads you end up scrolling forever just to jump to the next/last page. Also i noticed that there is no "Smalltalk" anymore, just TDR discussions :-( I think that gave the forums a little bit of character. Is this the final layout or with there still be some ongoing finetuning? Oh and can you add a button to post now, instead of having to preview first?

Also, I would like to add about logging in: on the old site you had user name and password fields on each page, if you were not logged in. Now you have to click "Log in" first. It takes one additional step. Could you bring back such functionality ? About forum/discussion - the middle column of the site could have border or very bright background, so that it could be more easily distinguished from left column (navigation and goodle ads)

Oh please, my first comment here this morning was just adding my thoughts to the layout of TDR and along comes Thomas with his stupid response. Steven posted his thoughts and again another backlash comment from Thomas…. It’s called constructive criticism; you would think one could take that and not go over the top with a response. Thomas has the cheek to call us children…. …. Many of us learn that here at TDR the moderators are going to stick together they always do, would we really expect anything else! I spoke to several people this morning over the new layout of TDR via email and MSN many won’t even offer there opinion here because they expect replies from Thomas… There no point in Visa expecting people to offer there opinion when his moderators are so OTT in there response!

There's one thing I just recognized: First you have the possibility to click only to see the new comments. But when you click on it you get forwarded to the first page of the topic and not to the new comments. Maybe it's a bug, I don't know. Just wanted to let you know.. And a sidenote: The ads on the left are either too big or put on the wrong place. Doesn't fit at all IMHO. Maybe it's really better to put them on the bottom? I know that this is a possibility to earn some money but it somehow looks like TDR needs it badly. Just my opinion.

wow! Great to see TDR is THE subject of the day today! :) I didn't point at anybody in my previous post anyway. Talking in general, not the first time we've had this discussion. We have actually had at least monthly in the past year about other issues regarding TDR. Rules, OW video, why we publish this or that article, etc etc. And I refer to my comment above again. Not only Visa expects to get some Feedback, we do as well, read my and Thomas' comments, we KNOW we have to apply some changes, it can't be any other way with such a new layout and system! You might have missed I started making a list (see some previous post). I sent an email to Visa as well with a couple of issues, and I collected some more from a couple of people I also chatted with. I've posted my opinion before. But after moving around TDR I think news are clearer now. And news are the most important, useful and interesting issue in TDR. So for me it's OK. Really good job, TDR team. "TDR forum" (SMALLTALK) is different from other Rox fans forums but as far as I am concerned, TDR discussions should be about news and not about other issues (sharing files, the most common). So I'll be reading TDR latests news every week and I will use this forum to ask doubts about some of the (new or older) news. Thanks

I'd like to see the navigation menu underneath the TDR banner with the search field integrated with it. And i'm guessing that the font used is just temporary?? as it doesn't seem to fit with anything else. And will all the old user info (email, posts, etc) be added? I think the navigation is harder. The drop-down menu from the previous website to jump from forum to forum was very nice. Also the edit option is absolutely needed :D I feel that the member profiles are very uninteresting now, it was better before when you could have a look at personal websites, the contacts, the place where they come from, real names and stuff :P

I like the new title sign, but just can`t accept the other changes. Please take a look at it on 800x600 resolution - the rox picture is blocking the title sign and the "news" area is far too small - the titles goes for 2-3 rows and the font is not so good choise either (my oppinion though :o)). I think I`m hardly the only one using 800x600 res. and it`ll be a shame if it stays that way cos it causes a disscomfort every time viewing. Please fix it, I come here at least twice a day every day! cheers!

i think the page is so-so... I might get used to this new TDR but it wont be better than the old one. it feels to white, empty and cold for me... Something like the SOAP-page would be better I think. The thing I like the most is the way you write ROXETTE on the page, with a star instead of an X =)

Sorry for the "edit" links missing from the comments. They will return. I can't reproduce the problem of "log out" redirecting to a "not authorized" page. For me, it always redirects to the frontpage. Thank you for your comments on the new layout. There definitely are things to improve and I don't mind being criticized as long as you have something constructive to say as well. But please understand that sometimes change is needed. This time the change was very dramatic, but the old layout was there for 7 years and that's an eternity on the Internet!

I don't like it. It looks like you guys have simply thrown information on the page without any design criteria. It's confusing and visually poluted. The fonts used don't make the texts easily readable... You should try Verdana instead, since it's a generic and nice font especially designed to be used on internet texts. The star used as "X" on the title doesn't work either. Sorry. And please don't ask me to do better... I'm a graphic/web designer but I don't have intentions to make another Roxette-site. There are plenty of them already. Please, don't get me wrong. I do like the concept of the website, the exchange of information. The only thing I don't like is the design. You should ask for a little help from Roxette fans who are really talented and willing to contribute to make well-designed Roxette websites, like Marcus from "Rox Service". That's what I think, it's an opinion that I assume you guys from TDR will take positively. ;-)

What I like best about TDR both before and now is what it DOESN'T have: allowing every person to add 10 thousand pictures and things to their signature file so that when someone's entire post consists of "LOL!" you have to scroll for 10 minutes to see the next reply! I'm glad that hasn't changed - less is more. Just check out the Janet Jackson forum at janetjackson.com if you want to see how horribly wrong that can go.

Sorry dears, but the layout (I can't possibly use the word 'design' cos there is none) is lame and very difficult on the eyes. I spent several moments being very lost until I realised where the navigation was! It fits on my screen ok, on my PC the serif font is harder to read, haven't checked it on my mac yet. I understand the need for a new system, but it will be a bit pointless if it turns people away. I am all for change, but people aren't criticising change in the sense of, if the don't like a particular colour just because it isn't their 'thing', they are criticising poor usability. I have been visiting this site since it was born and have continued to do so because, well, I enjoy visiting the site! I know there are limitations with any system, but if someone doesn't attack the css and give it some 'ooomph', then I am afraid I will have to rely on my friends to tell me the news instead.

I have to say, this is AWFUL. Too much white space makes the Ad's pop out and cover the page - with the actual content being hard to find. It would have been nice if we were all asked what improvements we would like to have seen before you spent all this time putting it into this new format. I'm very disappointed. One good option would to have spent your efforts expanding the memeber profile option so that we could fill in little profiles about ourselves.

Sorry, I don't like it. As some other users say, it looks too cold, too structued. I'd change the fonts. I find 2 things very annoying: I can't see the differences between the forum and the news sections, the previous version diferentiated them very clearly. The other thing is that it's hard to find who wrote each entry in the forums. Before reading the entries, I read who wrote them. Now it's hard to see who added a comment. I liked the 2 columns version (like in SOAP forums). There are some nice things though. The HTML tags and signature are fine. I understand that you worked hard for this and you wanted to improve the site, but unfortunately I think you did just the opposite. Now it looks cheap, looks like it was made in Word. Everything is so white-and-blue, so serious, I'm not reading the New York Times, I'm reading TDR! It doesn't feel like Roxette. I used to identify TDR with Roxette, but now, it seems like any other newspaper site (it seems that is what you wanted). I want more colours and less sharp corners! btw, where's the older TDR Icon? What's that blue thing?

Haven't read any replies so I dont get biased. The Frontpage layout is kinda ok, but I dont like the way the news are separated from each other, is not well defined. The forum layout is too constrained, the framing on the sides is distracting and takes a lot of "reading" space out. I'm using 1280x1024 The fonts are difficult to read if the amount of text is big. If I click on a thread I have already read, it should take me to the last unread post by default, or at least put a page navigation above the first post on the page, otherwise why should I have to scroll down to the last post just to change the page? And it's not that im "too used" to the Dailyroxette, since I allways been user of different forums. And now the more subjective part of my comments: it looks ugly and not unique like it used to look before.

I would add 3 things to the forums: 1 - When you reply someone's comment, your comment text field should include the original text and the user you reply to. 2 - Add an "add comment" button to the bottom of the pages. If I read a page full of comments, I have to go to the top to add comment. 3 - One should be able to see others comments while writing one. Sometimes I quote and answers several posts. You may take as an example the SOAP forums.

The white background doesn't bother me much, because I'm a programmer and used to staring at black text on a white screen. LOL I don't know much about web-design, so I won't say too much about layout and all of that. What I don't like is the font used on the front page and in the discussions (I notice that the text in the reply box is different (looks like Arial, but I could be wrong)). Someone else mentioned Verdana as well, I also think that is a good font to use. Also, I think the picture of Per and Marie in the top right corner is too big. It feels as if the picture takes up too much space. The rest of the changes are things I can get used to.

I like the old design much better, but maybe it's just a matter of taste. It will take some time to get used to the new layout. I've got 4 suggestions for Visa: 1) Delete the signatures. Signatures are very annoying. 2) Put lines around the replies/comments with a white background. 3) Make the grey background in the replies/comments lighter. At the moment the contrast with the white background is too big. 4) Put the navigation links with the different page numbers also on top of every first message. It's not pretty to scroll to the bottom of the page in order to be able to get to the next page. Pascal

When I first entered my thought was "What the ...???" But I am giving it another try right now and at second look I like it. In a few weeks I really will have a well trained scroll-finger. :-) Just for curiosity, why are the letters that big? I am not sure if one can read better now. But in the end it doesn't bother me. A bit strange for me is that I have to preview my comments befor I can post them. But all in all, great work, thanks a lot. :-)

Changes are hard to accept and I must get used to this! If I can be honest, the good thing is that the text is bigger in higher resolutions and it's easier to read but the white background is eye-tirering (eye-tiring...???? how do you write that!?!)... anyway one improvement that I can suggest is to separate the left, middle and right column in a more clear way so that you do highlight and direct the attention on the main middle column. If you take a look at en.wikipedia.org you can see that, even if they don't use a lot of colours and bulky separators, you can clearly see where something begins and ends... here everything looks like it's been placed in a hurry. Also do I have to preview evrytime before posting?

After having used it for a while I think the font makes me far more tired than the previous one. You should try some sans-serif one that is easier to read on a screen. I mean, ok it gives a very newspaper-like look to the whole stuff, but to read on a paper and to read on a screen are two quite different things. Maybe try some helvetica / verdana kind of thing. It's harder than the previous weird colour scheme :D

I don't think that the preview thing prevents me from making mistakes. I write what I want to say, I re-read it and send it off. At least that's what I did. Now I send it to preview and then send it off without a second re-reading. It's just a bit annoying.

i like the frontpage. since this is a kind of newspaper, the outfit fits. but maybe the font can be changed? and something should be done in the forum, it is not very easy to get through the forum. but i like white as backgroundcolour. for a first try not bad, but some changes (font, forum) maybe should be done. but i believe in you, dear tdr team!

awww, this new layout is a change which is not a good one.... for several reasons: - I have not seen the possibility to edit your previous comments, as was possible before. - The font that is used, gives me an headache if I look at it too long - It is not that easy to read as the previous version. Sorry for all the work that has been put in here, but this is a failure. Back to the drawing table. If it stays like this, I am not so sure I will visit TDR that often as I did, which is a shame, because it is (was?) the best source for Roxette-news. Maybe i will come back to this comment later, although I don't know how, since I haven't seen the edit-button. So I would have to make a new reply..... I give this a 2 (on a scale of 10); the old TDR a 8.5 (out of 10).

I am sorry but since when does Roxette use a star instead of the X? My favourite band in the world is NOT called Roette. Sorry it just does not work IMHO. The only thing I like about this site is the picture of Roxette, but even that is to big and creates a third column which should'nt be there at all. I have nothing further

Cool, the new design is as warm as a... frigde. Sorry. The big font used in the main page also looks pretty amateurish. I never complained about the old design. It was OK for me. This design is way too cold, too much white. In addition, the Google ads are very evident and annoying at the same time. Something that would be a improvement is if we could visualize the previous posts while are are writing a reply. That was not possible before, and it is not possible now either. That's usefull if you wanna reply to many people, but you can't memorize all that was said before. And the "edit" function is pretty necessary too. We all need it back!

Well, I was thinking if I should comment the new design now or give it some time. Well, I gave this new design the whole day... First of all, I know that you made this change for good and I really respect your efforts. On the other hand, I don't think that the change was so needed. I mean, I was really happy with the previous design and could live with that at least other 7 years :) But when the rumours and signs were spreading about the new design, I was really hoping for an improvement, like new features will be added etc. And what we have now - lots of good things are lost. In the previous version members profiles contained more info about the user, the ads weren't that evident and the whole design was way more warm. No, I really don't like this new The Daily Roxette. I don't feel welcome here somehow. I prefer other Roxette sites in terms of design.

I don't know why people are saying that there are "too many" ads? There is only one that i can see - it just stands out a little more than it did on the old site. - ok scrap that. I just realised my adblocker was blocking the ones on the left! It would be nice to have the favicon a little star or similar again, but i'm sure that will come in time. Although it probably won't make a difference, i've done a little mockup myself of a few tweaks. I think it looks a little nicer gives you a little more room instead of having 3 columns. Will upload it soon. If nothing else, i'd like like the font changed in the nav menu. It just looks wrong. I'm sure with the suggestions everyone is giving, this could turn out to be very nice :-)

Compared to a ready-coded backend, which will take a little bit of work to get it to the standard (from a users point of view) of the previous version.

FONT = NOT GOOD The one thing I liked about the other site was the form, it was clean and uncluttered, having the list instead of the column view you had in the previous version is not good. I like the way you read the old forum, user then subects then details now its all in one column moving down so its hard to see quickly who the person was who posted the topic stuff like that

No offense, but I think the page looks 5 years older then it did before the "update". The forum is very hard to read properly and it looks like it is only half finished. The ads for instance take up way too much space of the page and the choice of font and font size I also find not so very good. Using blue, underlined for links is something one did before one could actually change the looks of the HTML documents. Please give us back the old TDR again! Was sooooo much better! :-/

some/most are the same, just getting my point across also.. Ive done web page design. white background - blinding text - very plain, ugly, not exciting too read Im an 800x600 user, screen scrolls off after half of Maries head. Sideway scrollbars are ugly and make any website look like it has sloppy coding. With a massive logo and large Per/Marie pic there is no chance of even having the screen fit a smaller resolution. Add more colour. It looks empty with all the white. Google ads - too high. JoyRidErno design is a step in the right direction. Per/Marie pic on left and put google ads underneath so you see them only when you scroll down. thats enough for now :P And get rid of that star replacing the x in Roxette. Copy JoyRidErno's logo!

What about links? They don't work for me any more. I mean, just click at them and there you are. Now I've got to copy and paste them into my browser. Is this one of the 'still to do things' or is it planed to be this way?

As with any new 'thing', there are bound to be 'settling in' problems. It's a shame that they didn't wait abit longer to refine some things before changing over, but they were probably expecting some feedback from us. Well, they certainly got that didn't they!!! I think over the next few days we'll see some of the old things returning like "Edit your post" etc. I really hope the number of posts function comes back, with our old numbers on still!!!!

As a big fan of TDR I was really looking forward to the relaunch cause I expected some nice enhancements to come. But now I'm sorry to join the disappointed crowd. For the user there's currently no enhancement in functionality (beside the search field) and the design is a huge step back. Is it meant to stay that way or just a work-in-progress? I'm sure there are hundreds of solutions to enhance this new version to get even better than the old one and some users already gave good ideas! If Visa and the team told us about their plans and intentions for TDR '07 I'd be happy to help out with ideas or inspirations. TDR was and still is the #1 source for Roxette news worldwide – we should keep that status alive! :-)

If I read all the replies I have the impression (or actually I am quit sure) that most people who have replied are not so happy with the new design and prefer the old design. Did somebody already count how many people are pro and contra the new design? Maybe it would be a good thing to change back to the old TDR-design? Or is that not possible anymore? (No backup of the old one?).

Only 2 things, that I noticed, maybe later more: - the moderator/administrator label is gone. Do you wanna hide? ;-) - apart from getting a better "contour" on the posts with the white background: the signature should be better "seperated" from the content of the post

yay, the favicon is fixed :-) I hope the edit issue can be fixed. That sounds a little annoying. Is it possible to have the thread title clickable? As i find myself (at least i used to on the old site) opening up the thread in a new tab to re-read as i write my post. A little divider is needed for the sigs (or get rid of them completely ;-) quite a few times i've ended up reading the sig, very annoying. And what's the situation with the post times?? they aren't in local time, even though i have changed that in my user settings. Nice to see things are happening slowly... 2 things are ticked off my list already :-)

I see there are a few improvements here. That's great! I would add something else: The last edit date. In the old version, we could tell when someone edited their comments, but now, it's not possible and it may be confusing. I would also like to see the way the comments are ordered a customizable feature. That way you don't have to reorder de posts to see them the way you like. Oh, something else! When you post a comment, you are redirected to the first page of the topic you are posting. You should be redirected to the last page, I think.

Well, I don't want to be complaining all the time, but... I used to find quite useful when you could go from a forum to another without going to the general "discussions", which now is completely impossible. If you want to move from "International" to "TDR Discussions", you have to go back to discussions and then choose the other forum. In the old Small Talk (Hey, it's not called like that anymore, I don't like this either!!!) you could go directly. Edit: I had to try this, LOL. And by the way, why don't I go straight to my own comment after posting? JoyRidErno, you've been reading too much scary tales. Many websites keep you logged in until you deliberately sign out. If you're using a shared computer, you should always log out after using a site and not expect the session to expire for you. And you can't call the contents of TDR such that it would need high level of security. Is there anything in this layout that you didn't think ugly? Is there anything good in the fact that the site is now actually able to show which comments are new?

Now there is a forum switch button! :-) Some ideas: Regarding the TDR logo: - the shadow doesn't make much sense with the "Y" sticking out. I'd kill it. - the red star seperates the word Ro*ette too much into 2 pieces. I'd move the star between Daily and Roxette. Regarding the whole site layout: - it looks a bit messy at the top. My solution would be to move the grey line under the TDR logo and use it for the navigation and search (if the system allows it), then center the logo at the top. - the right column is really too space consuming: The width of the left column should be enough. I still think this update is a good thing - it just needs some work :) And I'm still learning this session thing and I didn't, and still don't, exactly know how they work. Problem is not big while I use my own computer, but I guess I should remember to log out while using a shared computer as you said. "Is there anything in this layout that you didn’t think ugly?" Thinking this whole site there are much improvements like logo and "user bar" - I like them. But on the other hand this forum is still cold and not so easy to use than the old one. I already mentioned the font problem. I guess you like it, but I don't and I'm not the only one :/ And these post are separated with black line, but there are no black line on right or left. I makes this look like it's broken or something. But it's just my opinion :) And it's ok to see what post are new, but isn't the color contrast too big? Black and white and then box is yellow and red? I have several times coded something like I want it, but then guys who use it want it on the other way. Sometimes it's hard to do some "stupid" changes, but I try to see it that way they might see it even better than me. You can do these things way better than me and I hope you keep on listening fans, they are not always right, but they might have good ideas :)

First thanks for trying to make better site and for hard work.. but small things make good thinks look bad... Judith Can you in brief say what's is better in a members point of view ,cos i don't see nothing better... Who wanted what and what in the end you did it????? Will be more features like pix for example?-What about sonofaplumber.com as example? From green to yellow kind of forum was hard ,but only becouse of a colour an memories...and it takes only 2-3 days.. But the more a look at this white sterility it gets harder and harder... Just logged on for the first time since the change. I think I rather like the new look, but I haven’t had that much time to run around yet because I’m having a HUGE issue with the springform design. All that stuff to the right of the screen—that lovely pic of Per & Marie, etc.—accordians in on top of everything in the center. My screen isn’t wide enough to accomodate everything, forcing me to physically shift the widow to the left so that I can elongate it enough to get all that rightscreen static info off to the right and doesn’t block anything. Then I have to physically shift the window back to the center so I can, for instance, type this comment, or read anything in center area. FRUSTRATING! I’d love to be able to more fully appreciate the new design, and to be able to use it, get used to it, but short of making that accordianing info on the right stationary—or getting a new computer, which isn’t in the budget at the moment—I don’t know if I’ll be able to enjoy the site as much as I once did.

Would it be too much to ask for some kind of hint or sign for the new posts in a thread? I have to read a lot of posts to find a new one and start reading from there. After writing the comment above, I found that there is a hint for new posts! I swear it wasn't there a few moments ago... Well, the following is still valid... Other way to achieve it is going directly to the first new post in a thread through the "xx new posts" link next to the topics titles. In topics like this one, I have to browse to the 6th page and then there, look for the new posts. That's very annoing. I know you couldn't do this in the previous version, but it would certainly be a mayor improvement in the navigation. Wow, I feel like a beta tester!

I just noticed the "Other articles with the same topic" feature. What criteria are used to build up these lists? Because: in this topic "Roxette keeps fighting the IRS" (for example) the listed articles do have in common to be articles about Roxette, but not about the "taxes-story". This is not very specific.

@All the users: Since the new forums allows the use of the tag, it would be nice if we start using it when we paste URLs. That way we won't have to copy and paste the URLs into a new browser windows. That's just a suggestions. I've seen several URLs without links since the redesign and it would be a shame to waste the opportunity to use them... @Visa: Have you noticed the way the tag behaves? Have you noticed the way the tag behaves? If the “href” you use doesn’t begin with “http://” the link directs you to http://www.dailyroxette.com/comment/reply/YOUR_URL_HERE. Is that OK? That's how the A tag always behaves.

Things are getting ticked off slowly :-) Page Navigation - done Post now button - done Favicon - done Skip to Forum - done Old user data - would be nice if the username was listed on the page as well instead of just the title bar. Thread title hyperlink Local time on posts Nav Menu and font Goto last post after posting comment Doesn't look like "smalltalk" is coming back. I can live with that :-) Good to see things are slowly being added. Nice work Visa.

Is there any reason that the page has been squashed? I know a few people were saying that the page wouldn't fit on an 800x600 display, but is it possible to have the page auto-adjust to your screen size?

That wont be possible until they shrink the the size of awful 'The Daily Ro*ette' logo and the Per/Marie pic which would/or does just scroll off the screen off anyway. If I made this site and got the feedback thats on these pages, I would of fixed colours/text/the whole thing quick smart to please the readers before they run off. It hasnt been done and people are deserting this place. Sad.

One more thing, if it wasn't mentioned before: the underlined numbers of the "page numbering" look a bit weird. The lines are not always at the bottom of the numbers, so some look like being "canceled" instead of "underlined".

There may very well be a difference in speed of loading the pages while logged in. For anonymous users (logged out, that is) we can cache the pages on the server aggresively because everyone will see the pages exactly the same. However, for each logged in user, pages are customized (the username on the top right corner, unread comments marked as new, etc.) and thus the pages can't be fully cached.

Thanx for the info! Never had this issue with other websites/forums. If you don't intend to change the general font to a better readable (and less ugly ;-) ) one, could you at least change the page navigation font, like Galadriel suggested? :-)

Oh my gosh... Please do something with this dreadful layout. it's messy and I can't seem to find thinsg around here. Honestly, this place as lost its charm. Those adds banner on the sides look very prominent right now, I can survive the green and found it hard at first with orange, but I live on. This black and white is such an eyesore. sorry for being honest. Hope this beta thing gets wrapped up soon. Thank you.

When I am not logged in, the "Last post"-time doesn't seem to be updated, as long as no new entry was written. (e.g. "last post 2min ago"; but 30min later still 2min is displayed) Is this intended to be so, or could it be a local (my own) problem?

"Active forum topics" Interesting idea. May be useful... A suggestion: Make a box like that with the last topics opened by the user. That way, you can track your own topics easily.

Are people really still going on about the new site design??!!?! I just wanted to post about some things I LIKE about the new site that the old one never had (if I'm allowed to do something other than complain, that is): * love the "Active forum topics" - I never go off-topic or to any of the other forums, but now that the subject lines pop up for active topics I'm visiting these ones more * love that we get to see the comment we're replying to when we type our reply * love that we get to see the new replies since our last visit (and not just that the thread has had new replies) * love that we can navigate to the next or previous thread from within the thread instead of having to go back to the forum

After giving this quite some time to get used to the change, I cannot help but still hating the new layout. I am sure it was a hell of work for Visa but the white background is really user-unfriendly. Never I have been so untempted to read this page and the forums in my whole life. (I pop in to get a quick update on the news section and off I am...) Much as I hate orange, I really miss the old TDR. It almost seems as if you wanted to scare people away (to save traffic or so). Do you have any statistics that shows how many people visited the site before the change and now? Also, it would be helpful if there was a "new" button in threads with new answers and by clicking "new", you could directly see the new answers instead of having to scroll through the whole page. (I keep ignoring the current "new".)

I just hope that the people who got elected to be moderators of the board are at least courteous to the comments that were posted by the members. If people like tevensso, who responded lamely as to saying 'Don't post here?' is the people that I saw moderating the board, then I'm sorry that more people will be pissed and eventually ran away from the place. Sorry for being rude, but we as members have rights to say things too. And I hope this post don't get modded by the powers that may be. You can see that I've been a long time member here if you happen to click on my profile. I've seen changes and knew quite a few people from this place. Yes, changes are good and I accept that it is bound to happen. But ignoring the sentiment of a lot of people is just plain arrogant and rude. There I said it. Sorry to make it very bad especially at this time of year. And I'm sorry if anybody is offended (well, too bad if you do).

In the topic "Add profile information" I was wondering about the item "number of forum topics” in the profile, because I couldn't remember ever having started a topic. But meanwhile I found the reason why there's the information that I started a topic in my profile: The topic "Remember this singer...?" got mixed up somehow. (http://www.dailyroxette.com/node/14735) I am shown as submitter, although my reply (Galadriel said on August 25, 2006 11:36:) is actually the last one. The real submitter of the topic was marcusvandeursen (August 23, 2006 21:37). Did this happen to some of the topics because of the switch? Or did things like that happen before and there's another reason? When I think a bit more intensely about it, I remember that I saw some (older) topics where the first (initial) post makes absolutely no sense, and is supposedly (also) one of the replies instead. ------------------------------------------------ Something else: The "formatting options" have been removed? Why?

Also, well, don't know if this has been asked/suggested before (haven't gone through all the 9 pages yet), and then I'm sorry for any mistake in my wording, as I don't know the proper technical designation for this :-P (still I hope you'll be able to understand what I'm referring to), but anyways; wouldn't it be possible (and then positive) to include the "navigation links" to the comments pages in the news section (those links which allow us to navigate through the comments pages, those, where it says "1 | 2 | 3 ... next > last >>") also right above the first comment in each page (just like it's been done for the forum section), instead of having them only below every last comment at the end of the pages?... So one would be "spared" the scrolling... :-P (I'm only sorry again, if this was something too stupid to ask/suggest...)

I think i might have posted this before, but is there any chance the site can be changed so it either is displayed in the centre of the screen, or even better auto-adjusts to fit the whole screen? Also is it possible after you sign in you are returned back to the page you came from rather than your user profile. I think that is quite pointless. I have to say that i have gotten used to the new look. I still don't like it as much as the older style and i would still like to see some changes, but it's slowly getting there. I also find the site looks a lot nicer using Windows Vista/IE7 rather than in XP, might be just me though?!

It's been almost year now... (and I still don't understand this "upgrade") Here are some notes.. 1. When you log in it would be good to get back to page that you were reading before you decided to log in. It is _very_ annoying when you just see your own profile... 2. This whole site is very slow/laggy when you are logged in, so you have to log out if you want to continue using site in normal speed.. And then you see something that needs to be replied... so number 1 again... (Don't blame machine, when it's human who runs business.) 3. Forum is not as good as the old one was. Basic problems are font and big white areas... Still there are some upgrades that I really like, but if I could now move back to old-orange-looking site, I would do that. But logo is good :)

I just noticed that the login page now goes to the previous visited page :-) I just done a very quick mock up of what i'd like to see. It's basically just changing the white background to a very light grey with a gradient fill out toward the edges and the page centred. I don't know how much work that would be, it would make it a little easier on the eyes if nothing else. Nice to see things are still getting worked on slowly :-)

Argh, last night I dreamed that TDR went offline and was replaced by some random music site! In my dream it was somewhat the only rox website around and we had to search for a replacement. What a sad thought! ;-( I just see the the new amazon banner, I hope a good deal for TDR. Can we except some layout/color enhancements in the near term?

I understand you don't want to relaunch the whole thing again but I think some small design enhancements could make a big difference and give tdr a "warmer" feeling again. Maybe just some different background colors, logo or a regularly changing Roxette photo. In the past the lyrics phrases gave a nice touch! If you're interested, I could help out with some graphics.
