Christoffer Lundquist’s solo album, Through the Window, that took him about 12 years to complete, will be released by Warner Music Sweden on May 4, just two days after Christoffer is set to receive the Sir George Martin Award at a gala event in Malmö.

In the interview that accompanied our news article announcing the award, Christoffer talked about all the instruments that he’s learned to play. The evidence of this is that on this album – except for the drums – he plays all the instruments (on separate tracks that have been mixed together).

During a few hectic years in the mid 90s, Christoffer Lundquist was an indiepop fan and the bass player for Brainpool. With hits like “Band Starter,” “We AIM to Please,” “In a Box” and “Every Day,” Brainpool quickly became admired by the pop-loving ZTV generation. It was during this period that Per Gessle became aware of the long-haired bass player in the round glasses. When Gessle a few years later would make a comeback as a solo artist in Swedish, the option he chose was to use Christoffer Lundquist and Clarence Öfwerman as producers. The result was the album Mazarin which was number one on the Swedish music charts from June to September 2003.  After Mazarin, the collaboration has continued with the albums Son of a Plumber, En händig man, Party Crasher, Gyllene Tider’s Finn fem fel! and Roxette’s new album Charm School, which danced to #1 on the German album chart when it was recently released. Chris has also toured widely with Per Gessle over the years. Right now he plays guitar on Roxette’s current world tour, a tour that looks set to exceed all expectations in terms of attendance.

For some years, Christoffer has been living in a house at the end of a dirt road in the area of ​​Vollsjö. Outside the kitchen window you can see cows and and the barn where he had built his life’s work, “The Aerosol Grey Machine Studio.” There he has recorded and produced artists such as Ulf Lundell, Sahara Hotnights, Bo Kasper Sundström, The Concretes, The Magic Numbers, Moneybrother, and about 100 more – everything from platinum-selling superstars to the obscure Hungarian death metal.

That it took Chris about 12 years to complete his solo debut Through the Window is perhaps not surprising given that the studio was always busy with other artists. The only time that it has been vacant has been between 4 to 6 o’clock in the morning, and he needed some sleep. The somewhat erratic recording history led to availability of musicians being limited. Christoffer has solved this by playing everything on the record himself, except for the drums. He has also mixed and mastered the album on his own.
