“Listen To Your Heart” 25 years old

25 years ago this week *, Roxette scored its second number one hit in the United States as “Listen To Your Heart” jumped into the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.

In doing so, the group became the first Swedish band to rack up two numbers ones on the chart — their debut single “The Look” hit #1 in April 1989. ABBA has previously topped the Hot 100 in 1976 with “Dancing Queen,” but the closest they came to repeating that mark was a #3 hit – “Take A Chance On Me.”

Roxette, as fans know, would go on to tally two more number one hits with “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride.”

In total, “Listen To Your Heart” spent 22 weeks on the Hot 100 and it ranked as the #22 song of the year in Billboard’s year-end rankings.

By September 2014, “Listen To Your Heart” had been played more than 5 million times on U.S. Radio.
